MSNBC: ACORN, Voter Fraud, and McCain campaign manager Rick Davis (dirty tricks)

REPUBLICANS GO FIGURE... VOTER REGISTRATION FRAUD

WASHINGTON - It seems republican campaign workers feverishly filled out voter registrations and handed them in to ACORN workers in only the battleground states, then tipped off authorities that something was wrong.

It is thought that this was done not only to nullify democratic leaning voters registrations, but also in hopes of linking the misdoing to presidential candidate Barack Obama. The FBI is now looking into this matter.

The RNC denied the claims.

McCain campaign manager Rick Davis my be implicated in the planning of this the latest of these dirty tricks.

on edit:

This is an MSNBC blog. Apologies for my thinking it was actual news.
However, the whole point of smearing ACORN to smear Obama is just more of the RNC and McCain playing dirty politics by making allegations that ACORN is out to destroy the American privilege of voting.

18. If anything, this implication should go viral for a few days
The FBI is looking into it, but this was a somewhat obscure article I found when looking for Rethug voter registration fraud.

It is McCain and his camp calling for ACORN to be investigated for voter registration fraud that started this latest attack to loosely link Obama to anything that would smear him in the eyes of the uninformed (FAUX) voters.

The following article am posting here, while not pointing fingers at McCain camp possibly having anything to do with the latest ACORN uproar, makes a point of who should really be investigated :

McCain Calls for Investigation of Voter Fraud in Battleground States

Ohio News
By John Michael Spinelli
Saturday, 11 October 2008 18:28
Columbus Ohio

Columbus, Ohio: At a campaign rally in Wisconsin last week, Republican candidate for president John S. McCain called for an immediate investigation into whether allegations that voter fraud in various battleground states is true or false.

In recent days, news of allegations by Republicans that ACORN, a national umbrella group whose members represent low income and minority populations, has engaged in voter fraud has become a battle cry for McCain supporters who see their candidate falling further behind Barack Obama, the Democratic nominee for president.

The issue of voter fraud, the Gold Standard of election issues that Republicans traditionally escort to center stage in the waning weeks before elections they fear losing, as they do this year, caused Sen. McCain last week to say that such allegations must be investigated promptly.

Responding to the issue, John McCain told his supporters this:

"Let me just say to you, there are serious allegations of voter fraud in battleground states across America; they must be investigated, and no one should corrupt the most precious right we have, that is the right to vote. My friends, you've seen the allegations; the multiple registrations under the same name, more registered voters than the population, these are serious allegation, they must be investigated and they must be invested immediately, and they must be stopped before November 4th so Americans shall not be deprived of a fair process in this election."

By his own standards then, it seems McCain should ask his campaign computer wizard Mike Connell to step forward and tell the world what he knows about whether computer systems he has worked on or is working on will lead to voter fraud this year. Connell, who has been a computer handy man for the Bush Family for decades, was served a subpoena recently. His Columbus defense attorneys have told head plaintiff attorney Clifford O. Arnebeck and the Office of Ohio Attorney General and the Office of Ohio Secretary of State that Connell's busy schedule prevents him from coming forward before the election.

6. I did have a question
I saw a report that one of the Republicans, I forget who, reported that in a certain area they had gotten calls about 10 invalid registrations. My question is how did the caller know that there were 10 bad registrations? As slimy as the Republicans are it would not surprise me that they turned in bad registrations just to setup ACORN, knowing that ACORN would have to turn them in.

didn't realize it was a blog.

Still, since it is the McCain camp publicly, and at the stump, calling for investigation in to ACORN, and that this allegation of fraud has to be investigated, will be interesting to see if the blogger is correct.

29. Am looking, too
But did find this from DU's own BradBlog:

GOP's ACORN 'Voter Fraud' Lie Ramped Up; State Police Raid ACORN Office in Vegas

I had been intending to post an answer to the ongoing --- and quickly escalating --- ACORN smears being issued of late by the GOP enemies of democracy out there, who have decided to intensify their unsubstantiated assaults on the community organization, given its effectiveness at registering millions of low-income voters across the country.

Today's incredible raid of an ACORN office in Las Vegas --- in hotly contested Nevada, as coincidence would have it --- has forced me to push this to the top of the heap right now. I've also posted ACORN's statement on today's nonsense in Vegas at the end of this article. Note to corporate media: Be sure not to read or report on that part of the story!

With prospects looking bleak for the Republicans this November, pulling out the old ACORN lie --- in hopes of scaring people away from the polls, causing chaos in November by challenging voters when they show up to vote, and putting in place baseless grounds to contest close results later on (when the GOP become "sore losers") --- is just about all they have left at this point.

<snip>
The thanks they receive for registering millions of new voters that nobody else has bothered with, and for notifying officials about questionable registration forms when they turn them in, is that the GOP's democracy-hating propagandists and election officials run to the media shouting, "ACORN is committing voter fraud! They've turned in hundreds and thousands of fraudulent registration forms!"

Of course they have. They have to. By law. But what those GOP despots of democracy always forget to mention is that it was ACORN themselves who notified officials about the potentially fraudulent and/or incomplete forms in the first place!

33. We need to look at 2006 too...
I was flipping channels this morning and discovered the woman from ACORN was actually on Fox News. She said Rove and friends were after her organization back in 2006 so it doesn't surprise her that republicans are attacking ACORN now.

It wouldn't hurt to start digging a bit further.

32. Yup, the Pukes have been out for ACORN for several elections now, because they
register poor people. The one case I read of, in '04, was nothing. A couple of votes involved, probably mere mistakes, maybe due to ACORN having to use poorly trained volunteers. That was my conclusion then--and the fraudulent Puke "talking point" about "voter fraud" (as opposed to election fraud) only reinforced it. They are trying to suppress the votes of the poor through fear and intimidation--and are using the power government, as well as the Corpo/fascist media, to do that. I also figured it meant that ACORN is very successful at voter registration.

Recently, I found out that ACORN checks religiously for fraudulent or inaccurate voter registrations forms, and turns them over to election officials for investigation! That answers another question I had: Why would a high-profile voter registration group like ACORN get involved in, or tolerate, fraudulent registrations? Their whole gig is voter registration. Why would they want to discredit themselves, when it is completely unnecessary? There are plenty of poor people to validly register. Another question: If they were having problems with poorly trained volunteers, why weren't election officials--and even DoJ prosecutors, cops and other officials--HELPING them? Why were they just sitting back, like rattlesnakes, just waiting for ACORN to make mistakes? Isn't it the job of the government--especially election officials--to promote citizen participation and increase voter turnout? And isn't it the job of the DoJ to enforce the Voting Rights Act of 1965, and insure that the poor, and especially the black, can vote?

Well, it turns out that election officials were, at the least, cooperating by accepting ACORN's flagged registrations and looking into it. ACORN was being very careful, because they didn't want to get a bad rep, so they red-flagged anything questionable. (Bear in mind that it is illegal NOT to turn in someone voter registration!) Then it appears that prosecutors and their Puke colluders used that good faith activity by ACORN against them, to allege that they turned in flawed or fraudulent registrations intending them to be accepted.

Disgusting. These Puke perps are criminals, if not treasonous. They are anti-democracy, anti-American, anti-equal rights, anti-voter rights, anti-representative government, anti-Constitutional fascists, and that is only the beginning of what they are. Torturers. Slaughterers of a million innocent Iraqis. Spies. Thieves, on a scale without precedent in history. And their bullying of ACORN is just the tip of the iceberg of their involvement in election fraud. Thank God this is finally coming out!

Next: Diebold, ES&S and brethren.

Then maybe we can get our country back--tattered ruin though it is.

34. This goes to voter registration suppression and to energizing your base turnout rates.
This is not some defensive reaction generated by past guilt  or something shrouded in mystery.
It's politics as usual and not so unusual there needs to be a nefarious plot at work. Who needs that when there's an RNC.

35. Of course this makes sense. Infiltration
of peace groups, protest organizations, and especially of "homegrown terrorist plots" (wherein the FBI agent is actually the one providing the key logistics and motivation) is the model that R's follow.

To take down Acorn, it's easy to assume that they'd corrupt the process by making sure that there were plenty of bogus registrations by providing them themselves, and then crying foul.

I bet the registrations in the names of the Dallas Cowboy players were done by a republican operative. It sets up the kind of sound bite they need to help sell the story.

36. THIS IS WHAT THEY WILL USE TO BRING OBAMA DOWN-help us media!
Just saw a repeat of this on icky Lou Dobbs and they are accusing Acorn of fraud because of course it is PROJECTION (what they have been doing all along) of what they are actually doing and they are linking Obama to them as well as well as a bunch of Repubs are signing a petition asking for the investigation of Acorn and immediate halting of government funding. Acorn says it does not get funding. They said Obama's Campaign paying $800 thousand to hire Acorn to do voter registration. They made it sound like Obama was the only one that has any legal past with them. They are going to hammer this hard. This has got to be stopped.
