Forgive me if this has been covered before, but I've been away.

I've heard from two different people that the gasoline situation in NC is getting out of control. People have to wait in line for hours to get a few gallons of gas and that in some places there has been, if not violence, at least some angry behavior.

Is this true?

Sounds like back in 1973.

1. That was the case two weeks ago in Asheville.
It has settled down, now. Still no higher octane gas, though.

2. yes
and when we do get it it is still closer to 4.00 a gallon. They are blaming it on Ike's destroying of refineries on the coast.

So it is very logical to Drill baby Drill more on coastal waters! :sarcasm:

6. yep
I think it's a ploy to get N Carolinians used to the idea of coastal destruction for oil.

3. Same here in the Atlanta metro area.
But now gas is plentiful, though some stations still do not have premium.

4. Part of it was because of the pipeline busting.
It's suppose to be getting better now that it is fixed. But gas is still .20-.50 higher than anywhere else in the country and some places are still running low.

5. I just heard/read somewhere that gas is more expensive in NC than in any
of the other Lower 48. It's about $3.75 at my corner gas station (just SE of Raleigh)

9. It was tight last weekend, but close to normal now. Certain brands (BP) had problems,

but Shell was available.

FYI, prices are down a lot this morning.

Look at this WRAL page to check out prices. Type in 27517 for a snapshot of Chapel Hill.

10. Just a gentle warning of days to come
People that "can't live without their cars" need to start thinking about what they're gonna do when there's no gas to put in their cars.

Just a suggestion.

12. Depends
I usually fill up at BJ's in Garner because they are a dime or so cheaper than most places around here and it's on the way home. They've not had any gas when I've been by (usually once a week) since Ike hit. Two weeks ago they ran out as I pulled up to the pump. That's the only place in the SE Raleigh/Garner area that I've seen out. All the stations at my house were priced at $3.87 for regular this morning.
