Pelosi: Congress may need to return for stimulus
10/08/2008 12:49:11 PM MDT

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi called for a new $150 billion economic stimulus package Wednesday and suggested Congress may need to act this year.

"We have some harsh decisions to make. Some of them can't wait until January," she said in Colorado today after a tour of Denver Health Medical Center's pediatric emergency facilities.

"What we can't wait for is a stimulus package," she said. "We may have to go back into session before the next Congress."

She suggested $150 billion may be needed to invest in the economy, create new jobs and provide medical and food stamp benefits. "We need emergency food assistance," she said.

1. It seems as if direct support for the people is only an after thought.
Why couldn't they have used part of that "really big number" 700 billion for a stimulus for the people instead of the Bankers?

3. Because they tried to pass it before... but
it would not go... remember the senate...

Now IT MIGHT go somewhere, and perhaps king george will not threaten the veto either

As is you need a multi layered approach to all of this... like the New Deal

2. My wife doled out food to 68 families at the food bank yesterday. "Normal" is 30.
And, the food bank is almost out of food.

But, hell, working stiffs and the unemployed aren't bankers.
