.... drawn on the US Treasury.

Federal retirees. Military retirees.

Next are state government retirees.

Municipal retirees are nervous.

Everybody else is as nervous as a cat next to a rocking chair.

1. I've told two family members that if things get too bad, they can come live with me.
I have a big house and a job.

3. I'm already calling home the folks I love, too....
One moved in with me recently, and another is getting ready to move into the area. We all feel like it'll be a lot easier to look after one another if need be when we're not thousands of miles apart.

2. I'll get a pension from California if the pension fund lasts that long....
Got ten or twelve more years to go, though, so who knows what will happen between now and then.

5. A retired friend and I were just talking about that today - we are both retired
Edited on Tue Oct-07-08 05:18 PM by ThomWV
I retired from the Federal Government and he retired from the Municipal Water works of the neighboring Country. We are both in good shape and not at all concerned - but I have to tell you something. If I had not retired early, as I did 3 years ago, I could not retire today and I would have been forced to declare bankruptcy just before they changed the law. No shit, I used my retirement to get myself out of debt by taking the allowed one-time raid on my retirement savings to pay off every bill I had. I have never touched the rest of my savings since then, but of course they have shrunk considerably. Doesn't bother me much, I don't need then and shouldn't for another couple of years so as long as I don't sell I haven't lost a thing and in time they will come back.

6. I'm nervous for other people
We don't have any money to lose, so we're not feeling a pinch. Our mutual funds dropped by 25 percent, but the were nowhere near "retirement ready"--not by a long shot--so maybe over the next couple of decades we'll be able to build them back up again. Or not. WhatEVER.
