PROTEST SNL!: Sarah Palin to Appear on SNL
PROTEST SNL!: Sarah Palin to Appear on SNL
by lmenshevik
Mon Oct 06, 2008 at 04:21:56 PM PDT

Here's his email: [email protected]

http://www.suntimes.com/entertainment/zwecker/1203739,CST-FTR-fey05.article

It's looking more and more likely that Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin will appear on ''Saturday Night Live'' -- to have some fun with Tina Fey.

(Not my emphasis)

Why is it that she should get a slot on SNL when she has yet to answer one real question from the press? Her appearance on SNL will only boost their ticket positively, and dominate news coverage for an entire week. People, we only have less than 4 weeks in this election.

Contact Lorne Michaels now. I know he's supporting McCain but so what. A barrage of emails might do something. SNL is losing its viewership, especially after this election. Tell them this is unacceptable, and that he is giving a post to someone who needs to answer questions. This election has turned into an utter farce, and before she's allowed on SNL, she needs to take questions from the press about what she knows and believes.

Here's his email again: [email protected]

also you can send letters from here. choose "Saturday Night Live" before sending your complaint:

SNL is in a catch 22. They don't want to look partisan towards the Democrats. They had Hillary and Obama on there. Also, 911Guiliani and others.

8. Why would I protest free speech? Are you telling me that Obama and Biden
couldn't appear on SNL if they wanted to? I'm sure the offer has been extended many times. Hillary's been on, Gore's been on, Nader's been on, Bob Dole's been on, and so on. I'm sure other politicians have too. I think John McCain's been on, for that matter. If they were inviting Palin and not the others, I would have a problem, but I cannot believe that they haven't invited Obama and Biden. It's up to them to show up.

24. Sorry, I guess I missed it
I didn't see the first Palin skit live either - YouTubed it - but no one told me about the Obama appearance.

Nevertheless, I'm sure he could appear as often as he likes between now and the election. They all probably can. I detest Sarah Palin - I mean really DETEST - but I don't have a problem with her being on SNL. Everyone will think it's Tina Fey anyway.

9. I wish SNL had the balls to do this right...
Get them both on stage and have Tina Fey (as Sarah Palin) intelligently answer questions. When she's done, she could look at Palin and, in Palin's voice, say "See, that's the way it's done, don't ya know" and give her the wink.

It's the timing. Way too late in the game to have any of the candidates on SNL in person. They can do all the equal opportunity parodies they want, but not with the real candidates.

I thought the SNL crew were smarter than this. I thought Tina was classier. Guess I'm wrong. Sarah Palin (and her running mate) are officially rabble inciters based on their performances lately. Will they have audience plants yelling 'terrorist' or 'kill him?'

I'm off to write emails to SNL.

31. This is no surprise to me. It's the right thing for them to do.
The McCain camp really has no choice. They have to put her up there to show she can take a joke. If they avoided SNL, she would look even worse than she already does. One 90 minute television show is not going to sway that many voters one way or the other.

Suggesting there should be some sort of protest or that Lorne Michaels should be sent emails from DU'rs is rather silly, in my estimation.

As was pointed out above, Obama and Hillary have appeared on SNL in the past.
What's good for the Goose is good for the Gander.

Besides, why pass up yet another opportunity to laugh at her?

41. Please......
Let her appear. This is desperation. They'll probably even cook up a script to try and make her look good. I bet the McCain campaign's machinations over what the content of the skit will be will make her and them look worse than they already are.

They are so bent out of shape over this, it's hilarious. Like no presidential candidate has ever been imitated before, but whiny little Sarah who doesn't understand how the big world works wants to "respond". Let her. She's already a walking joke. Let her go on Letterman too. I'd love to see her get slaughtered.

44. Don't Protest, but Ask For Equal Opportunity
First: There is no reason to believe McPalin will help their cause at all. The more Palin is in the public eye, the more the polls drop for them. SNL has done the Democratic Party ENORMOUS help with their Palin sketches, helping turn into a national joke.

Second: As the polls showed after the VP debate, US voters are perfectly capable of saying, yes she is likable, but no she is not qualified to be President. Even if she is mildly amusing on SNL (which will only happen if she is the butt of the jokes, as McCain was), there is no reason to freak out and assume this will somehow bail out their failing campaign.

Third, there is absolutely no reason to think our protests will matter a damn. Having Palin on will help ratings, which equals profits, which trumps unhappy Dems.

Fourth, instead of making us look like we have no sense of humor, it makes more sense to push for a Biden appearance. :)

Given the skewering that's been going on since September on the show, she may go on there trying to poke fun, but it's gonna backfire when they do something to make her look really stupid.

And the thing is, she won't realize it until it's happened.

I would be shocked if her handlers approved this. No real downside for SNL. Her participating in a parody of herself which has been ongoing... no real upside for her. Unless she suddenly becomes more intellectual in thinking and analyzing thoughts (and understanding policies) before speaking. She hasn't yet demonstrated that facility.

57. that hardly seems worth protesting
I'm not sure about the claim that Michaels supports McCain--he donated heavily to Obama after Obama won the nomination. He donated to McCain, too, but back in the primary season.

As for Palin's appearance on SNL--well, the people watching aren't really her target audience anyway. And yes, it will get coverage on the networks, but there's no reason to assume that coverage will all be positive. For one thing, talking heads will certainly comment on the fact that she won't answer questions to the media but will go on SNL; for another, it will keep Tina Fey's impersonation (and the horrid media appearances that inspired them) in the news cycle.

61. Palin on live TV with Tina Fey? A handler's nightmare and a complete CF.
I don't care how scripted it is, Palin is NOT capable of dealing with any curves that SNL or ANY live performance might throw at her. All it will take is an audience response she didn't expect or a dropped line or two in her sketch and Palin will look like a complete ass.

While I think SNL and their execs will probably play straight with Palin, I just have to wonder if maybe a performer might want to make history on that show. You just KNOW that if they can break Palin it will be a clip played round the world and instant fame for whoever is on stage with her when it happens.

If I was managing Palin I'd sure keep her off that stage. Good think that campaign is not doing much of anything I agree with.

65. If this happens, I'll bet the RNC will try to pack the audience with people who will
cheer loudly and do the Troglodyte chant: "USA! USA! USA!"
