out here at every election. the economic meltdown is far more complex than you suggest. It's unlikely we will return to a cash society. As for being able to fend for myself, I'm probably in much better shape than most Americans. I live a modest life in house heated by wood with gravity fed water and built in gas lights. (yes I have electricity too) No one is going to flee to northern VT if things get really tough. And of course, if they do get really bad, I'll help my neighbors to the best of my ability.

As for living in a cash society, that's ok by me. And I'm part of a network of folks willing to help each other out, which is a good thing.

I would recommend that folks start stocking up on food before prices go sky high, though.
