OFFS: "Take that Tina Fey! Sarah Palin wants to appear on SNL to 'tweak' Fey"
:puke:

It's looking more and more likely that Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin will appear on ''Saturday Night Live'' -- to have some fun with Tina Fey.

As the comedian's impressions of the GOP vice presidential candidate draw laughs from Republicans and Democrats alike, a top honcho from the John McCain campaign tells me there's a debate going on about how to respond.

Some key McCain staffers are content with Palin joking about the "SNL" routines on the campaign trail -- as when scribbled "I'm not Tina Fey" on a supporter's cell phone and said she'd dressed as Fey on Halloween. But others -- including the governor herself -- think a return punch on the NBC airwaves is what's needed.

I'm hearing some sort of Palin tweak of Fey's American Express commercials is in the works.

1. Historically, every Right Wing attempt at "humor" has been an epic fail
Palin would only further humiliate herself.

22. Historically, Richard Nixon's turn on "Laugh In" got him very favorable ratings. . .
and though I'd hardly expect the same favorable reception for Sarah Palin today, there are some who credit Nixon's comedic appearance with garnering for him the very narrow margin of victory he had in 1968.

I am certain Palin's appearance would be as close to funny as "Saturday Night Live" could make it, as they would undoubtedly write it for her.

35. The whole repug party was different 40 years ago
now days movies like "an American Carol" and the failed Fox attempt at a Right wing version of "the Daily Show" just go to prove that outright hostility and hatred don't translate well in comedy. Nixon looks like a moderate centrist by comparison to BushCo and McSame/ Palin.

41. And the corporate stance of NBC to not alienate either of the political parties. . .
remains the same today as it was 40 years ago.

You don't truly believe the idiots who put together either of the two shows you mentioned would be allowed by SNL to have anything to do with an appearance by anyone on SNL, do you? SNL would write Palin's script, subject to approval by the McCain Campaign, and Gov. Palin would be given an opportunity to make a passable appearance, probably not very funny (that's the general nature of politics, by the way), but sufficiently entertaining for her supporters to let them feel she had "gotten in her digs" at Tina Fey and the Gang.

I recall Sen. Obama was slated to appear on SNL the weekend Hurricane Ike made landfall. He's still supposed to make an appearance sometime before the election, if his schedule permits. If he does, I'm certain his appearance will also be as tightly controlled and as marginally funny as Gov. Palin's may prove to be. That's the nature of politics, and more than ever, the essence of corporate television -- a fact that has changed not at all in the almost 80 years since FDR first utilized mass media to appeal to the people.

9. Is she trying to be a *gasp* celebrity?
OTOH, an appearance on SNL would not be much of a deviation from what she does already. Reading scripts is second nature for Palin.

14. Like the republican comedic stylings of Lieutenant Steven Hauk
Lieutenant Steven Hauk: I understand you're pretty funny as a dee-jay and, well, comedy is kind of a hobby of mine. Well, actually, it's a little more than just a hobby, Reader's Digest is considering publishing two of my jokes.

Adrian Cronauer: Really.

Lieutenant Steven Hauk: Yeah. And perhaps some night we could maybe get together and swap humorous stories, for fun.

Adrian Cronauer: Oh, why not? Maybe play a couple of Tennessee Ernie Ford records, that'd be a hoot.

Lieutenant Steven Hauk: That's a joke, right?

Adrian Cronauer: Maybe.

Lieutenant Steven Hauk: I get it.

15. Palin mistakes herself for someone the audience respects, like Hillary Clinton,
or even Janet Reno, who could laugh at herself. But these women are respected. Palin is not.

16. dear sarah,
judging from your short anchor stint, you do not have the talent to act and comedy? well....that is for the smart peeps.

Stay with the pole dancing and winking-- it's what you do best.

You would humiliate yourself trying to parody Tina Fey - but then, do you even know what parody means? the Pukes seem to be 100% clueless about the difference between snarky sarcasm and satire, parody and black comedy.

It's called humor. H U M O R. Look it up.

40. I always thought she was lying when she made that statement because...
she was trying to insinuate that no one knows who Tina Fey is in Alaska. Palin has quite a nasty and digging "sense of humor" as we all witnessed in the debate with Biden....

37. It would be a train wreck
And millions would tune in to watch.

It could easily happen. Lorne Michaels is friends with McCain (who has been on SNL before) and while the majority of Lorne's 2008 donations ($64K+) has gone to democratic candidates, he has given over $4K to McCain campaign.

It will be a train wreck because Palin doesn't strike me as the kind of person who would take direction well. Never before has someone been so supremely overconfident in their own meager abilities.

The trouble with the world is that the stupid are cocksure and the intelligent are full of doubt. Bertrand Russell.

Thanks GW dumbya for lowering the bar. :puke: This Country is doomed in more ways than one. Oprah, The View, David Letterman et al. :wtf: We should aspire to much more from our leaders. Why do they feel the need to appear with faux celbs on their shows? And I am talking both Dems and repubs. This is embarassing!
