Freepers hate "Atheist Supremacist" Bill Maher
from a thread about "Religulous":

I’ll not comment on what I believe must die.

I know I should be angered by this, but I just can't summon the rage.
Maher is pathetic.

I believe there is a special place in Hell for Maher and his kind where eternal torment is a 1,000 fold the normal lot.

Some people who don't believe spend an awful lot of time defending and justifying their unbelief. Why is that?
So, if I stop believing, I'll be brilliant and wise and compassionate like Bill Maher? I know plenty of highly intelligent believers, and many ignorant unbelievers who think being atheist means they're smart.

The plain fact is, religion must die for mankind to live,” Maher says in a melodramatic finish that is as smarmy as any late-night cable TV evangelist.
Goebbels couldn't have said it better in The Eternal Jew. This is revolting propaganda against a basic human right to freedom of religion.

“That’s it,” Maher tells us. “Grow up or die.”

The calls for “death” are threatening. Atheist supremacists in this world have killed before. Just ask the Russians.

Maher is a very special kind of lowlife. The kind that is just so ridiculous, so stupid, and such a joke that you don’t even get mad that he does things like this. It would be like getting mad at a dog for crapping in the front yard.

What else do we expect from him? Maher is a lost soul and should be prayed for.
The Lord is not slow about His promise, as some count slowness, but is patient toward you, not wishing for any to perish but for all to come to repentance.

It's anti-religious. The basic idea of the movie, based on the previews and commercial, is Dawkins' Root of All Evil? mixed with Maher's "humor."

Anyone familiar with Maher's take-no-prisoners style – his stand-up work, the defunct “Politically Incorrect” TV show and currently HBO's “Real Time with Bill Maher” – knows what to expect.
Like "Cannibal Women in the Avacado Jungle of Death"?

Grow up or die? Is beating your girlfriend grown up, Bill? How about mocking those who tragically die, Bill? Is it grown up to use your D list celebrity status to molest 18 yr old girls at the Playboy Mansion, Bill? And why do you never bash Islam, Bill?

I have seen the commercial a few times, it looks like bits of islam are included.

One scene in the commercial shows an imam saying ‘islam means peace’ then cut scene to a video of a VBIED exploding at a Jewish outpost.

I don’t see any problem with this. Obviously the guy is off his rocker but I enjoy a good laugh at my own expense every now and then.

OF course there are negative aspects of religion, but that doesnt mean there aren’t overwhelming positives. Someone probably took away his weed and now hes strung out

The most rabid of the anti-religious are Homos (such as Maher) since they blame religion for not being accepted by society. For perverts to florish, religion must be weakened.

1. Even funnier is that Bill Maher said he was
not an atheist and even said some atheist are as bad in their way as the fundies. He says he doesn't know and won't until after he dies.

Always comes down to that, doesn't it? Mahr's documentry showed exactly how insane these people are. They use religion to hide behind, when really their hate is within them. There are plenty of good religious people in this world who use the influcence of Jesus if Nazereth as an influence for positive acts. Mahr's documentry, which it appears they haven't seen, is holding a mirror up and they don't like their reflection.

4. Yup exactly.
Maher's point in this movie is that all modern religion does is preach and judge. They tell you not to do anything - drink, smoke, get laid, and so on, and if you dont do those things, you're going to hell.

6. Maher has his reasons for not picking on Eastern religions
It's called a budget. I'm also guessing that trying to critically analyze all religions would have made it very difficult to keep the movie under three hours and still be worthwhile. But, hey, maybe he'll do a Religulous 2 about Eastern religions.

7. When I sat with my friends in the theatre and we saw the previews for "Religuous"
I was the only one who jumped up and down and declared: "Yeah! That's the next movie I gotta see this year!"

All I heard was crickets chirping. But that's bcuz I'm the only agnostic in my whole group of friends. There are even other vegetarians, but they all believe someone put us here on earth, and it's hard for anyone with that belief to deal with someone poking at the ridiculous underbelly of organised religion.

Maher is a huge shit disturber: look how he loves Coultergeist and has him/her as his frequent guest, knowing it's gonna send people like me screaming from the room. And I think he's an arrogant jerk, but like Keith Olbermann, arrogant jerks might be just the ones who tell the world what it needs to hear.

Anyway, haven't seen the film yet, and I guess I'm gonna end up going alone to the theatre!!! So if you hear loud guffaws from the back, eliciting glares from narrowed eyes, check for the 6'1" Amazon holding her sides who had NO company, but is too tickled to care!

8. Go see this film!
Mr. Poppy and I saw it yesterday. When it comes to DVD, I am buying it.
Maher also touches on how the US was NOT founded as a Christian nation.

It was good for many laughs. The whole theater was laughing and clapping the entire time.

11. Maher is an agnostic, not an atheist
But in Freeperland there is no distinction between the two. It really is quite difficult for me to read uninformed opinions that are based on a false premise.

Same as me.

Absent evidence, and there is none, it's the only honest position to take.
