No Rove/Miers subpoena yet - vote for that delayed until next week
The committee also postponed for a week a vote on whether to authorize subpoenas of top aides to President Bush who were involved in the eight firings, including political adviser Karl Rove, former White House Counsel Harriet Miers and deputy White House Counsel William K. Kelley.

The committee approved subpoena power over key Justice Department officials involved in the firings: Michael Elston, Kyle Sampson, Monica Goodling, Bill Mercer and Mike Battle.

Sampson, Gonzales' chief of staff, quit this week. Elston is staff chief to Deputy Attorney General Paul McNulty and Mercer is associate attorney general. Goodling is Gonzales' senior counsel and White House liaison, and Battle is the departing director of the office that oversees all 93 U.S. attorneys.

Gonzales has said he would allow the aides still at the Justice Department to testify voluntarily. It was unclear whether Sampson would agree to tell his story without a subpoena.

1. I read that they want the goods before they get rove
I have looked and can't find the article. But I read that the committee wants to wait to get rove and meirs til they get the staff's testimony. They want to see if the got the goods and if rove and meirs lie.

6. Well, that makes so much sense

In this article, Specter says that the committee is doing exactly what he would have done ... were he still the chair. The big difference is, he wouldn't put any ONE of them under oath!

4. Remember Asscroft's testimony?
"I don't know."

"I don't know."

"I don't know."

"I don't know."

and I don't think he answered a single question.

The one thing the BFEE is best at is stonewalling. There is a reason they appoint only the most rigidly loyal.

5. Call members of the Judiciary committee and tell them to support these subpoenas.
I just got off the phone with Cornyn's office. (He's my senator. :puke:) The staff member said some members have "concerns" about these subpoenas. I was incredulous. I told her that either Cornyn supports getting to the bottom of this (like he said on NPR) or he doesn't, and if takes a subpoena to get them there to testify he has to support a subpoena. Otherwise, I'd be forced to question the sincerity of his public statements.
