I certainly can't be the only one watching the events unfold over the last few weeks- the fear, the dire warnings, the not-so-veiled
threats who is reminded of the atmosphere in which the Patriot Act was passed. It is the same atmosphere of fear, urgent fear.
Here is a link to a video which KPete
posted where Rep. Brad Sherman (D-CA) speaks openly of the threats
he and others have received from the Bush administration and their cronies. Threats of
martial law, right there from a House member's mouth. Watch it.
That snippet says quite a bit about the kind of pressure being put on these lawmakers, doesn't it?
This is why I am against the current legislation. It is just as poorly written as the Patriot Act- and it is
stuffed with pork, to boot. The administration is using fear and pork barrel carrots to lure house members into voting for this piece of shit before it can be refined or better alternatives can be proposed.
Tomorrow you, me, your children, every breathing American may have several thousand dollars added to their debt load.
For what? What
guarantees can we get from this astronomical amount of money?
Some, even Obama, have mentioned that we can pass this now and work on taking out the worst bits later.
Remember how they said that about the Patriot Act? How could you
not remember that?
Call your rep, demand that they VOTE THIS DOWN!
We can, we must, demand better legislation.Remember, you don't need threats, coersion, fear and pork to pass good legislation.PB
