Some House Repubs want pork removed and amt reduced w/oversight - walked amendment to Senate mtg
Edited on Thu Oct-02-08 06:05 PM by cyberpj
this afternoon.

I saw this on CSPAN at around 3pm to 3:30 today and it was impressive.

They said that they would walk an amendment - removing the pork plus limiting the amount to $250 billion (because Paulsen says he only needs 50bil per month) and then they will revisit.

They were going to walk this to the Senate and ask for it to be accepted - then vote on the new one.

They spoke to the press for about 20 minutes with details and why this is much better for citizens.

I haven't seen any clips of it on news since I got home this evening.

ON EDIT
JUST FOUND THE CLIP ON CSPAN:

1. It's a start at least....
Now that REP-tile Dave Wheldon is up on House floor, lying his ass off.

He is blaming the fraud on Clinton's Admin.

5. Look. I'm a lifelong Dem and after hearing more and more about these bills
Edited on Thu Oct-02-08 05:56 PM by cyberpj
and actually listening to the Pubs in the link I posted, I'm really wondering why the Dems are pushing so hard for this bill with it's pork and it's 7 Bil given to Sec. Treasury for his personal disbursement choices.

If you listen to the press conference and this small group of Pubs I think you'd have a hard time finding fault with their proposal.

6. First off the bill on Monday didn't have that pork
Edited on Thu Oct-02-08 06:01 PM by nadinbrzezinski
that was passed because the House shot it down

Second off, I'll tell you why

Credit... not bout wall street but main stream

As I said... will the GOP crash the US Economy in their religious fanatism about the markets? STAY TUNED

I should add, how many folks will applaud as Rome burns?

8. I understand about Monday's bill, but the one they passed today had it
and it was only put there to buy votes.

I also understand about freeing up credit - but I don't see why you have to give Paulsen 700 Bil when he testified he can only spend 50 Bil per month. What is wrong with giving him SOME and then re-evaluating.

I do not like one person having all that power with no oversight.

10. There is oversight, but that's ok
this is now a common talking point and does not matter how much evidence is presented to the contrary... no matter whether you are on the right or left, does it make a difference

12. The Government could temporarily assume the role of Banker
Edited on Thu Oct-02-08 06:16 PM by Winterblues
They could immediately remove the credit Problem by issueing Loans @ 1% Interest to any American that needs it to buy a car or Pay off a Mortgage or Credit Card Debt. Why give the money to Fat Cat Bankers that charge Usurious Interest Rates and won't solve the problem but just delay it until the Banker squanders all our money. Why do a Top Down "Loan" when they could just as easily be Progressive and do Bottom Up Loans and Really stimulate the Economy? Why?

14. Exactly. There ARE other options. We are being herded into a bad idea by fear again.
And I'm upset that no one learned the lesson from the first time.

9. There are hard-core 'free-market' Republicans who still don't like the whole idea.
But they say they can get the votes with the new amendment - no pork and only 250 Bil and oversight to evaluate after the 250 Bil.

11. They know from the calls they are getting the original will not pass
and so they are attempting to ghost one by us. This is a lot of money to pay off the bad bets china and england made on our properties and we still have to pay it back in taxes. This is all one big lie on Paulson's part to help outsiders with their bad investments which our banking system created for them. Think about it, our bankers lied to other nations and they are extremely upset with them so how do they get the money ? They get it by stealing it out of our pockets.

A good friend of mine is an economics person in government and they believe it all to be one big lie on Paulson's part to get money from us. We should be listening to the economics in this country not the people who put us into this position like Paulson.

:grr::grr:

13. Well I wish more congresspeople would understand that and take a breath before
doing the deed.

There ARE other ideas out there and one more day or two is not going to topple the entire country.
