I upset my repub brother-in-law by debunking anti Obama email
My brother-in-law sent us one of the “send to everyone you know” emails, the one about Sen. Obama’s birth certificate. We prepared and sent (reply to all) a debunking email with info (link and excerpts) from factcheck.org and received this petulant response. He has sent us other stuff, which we also debunked, but I guess he has finally figured out that we know how to read, research, and reason and won’t bother us any more. His response follows:

<snip>
“Concerning all the e-mails that pass our desks- these are not necessarily facts at all, but what someone has said are facts, and hardly worth pursuing in order to "know the truth". The truth will come out in time, and not worth my time to get it all straight before letting you know. I assumed you all automatically knew the difference. You are my family and I love you, and don't want to send anything to you that may be offensive or in bad taste, so I will not forward things out to you in the future regarding this election. The things I have personally forwarded were sent because I thought you all wanted to see what was happening out there, and I just wanted to have some sort of dialog with my family, and politics seems to be on everyone's mind
right now. I will get back with you when I find a better subject that is more appropriate.”<end>

It bothers me that he doesn’t want to “know the truth” and blindly passes on stuff “to everyone you know.” But I am relieved that the lady I’ve been married to for more than 40 years shares with me my interest in learning (I do so every day via DU and links found there) and passing on corrected misinformation - even when it is unwanted/unwelcome.

"If you don't want to keep looking like a fool, factcheck yourself before forwarding racist bullshit. Dumbass."

4. Hey Shipmate
Chatting about politics is verboten with my in laws cause I love my wife way too much. Her brother and sisters and their spouses are way right of us so there's no sense in chatting politics. Interestingly my wife and I are the only two that have served in the military and yet my in laws (not mom and dad inlaw who were awesome dems) are incredibly patriotic conservatives. All ya gotta do is ask em.

8. It's so easy...
For those who have never experienced the dulcet tones of rounds, shrapnel and spall flying about them to play that shit and support any and all killing by their government. After all, it's just colorful pixels on their TV and a magnetic ribbon on the family car.

I swear, a lot of the kids these days think that when you go to war, you catch a round, you get a 30 second respawn and you are back at it.

There is something we are not teaching, in this society, regarding a little thing called "reality". And "consequences".

year has been an exciting time for our house. Shouting at the teevee, talking to people, reading stuff, googling stuff.

Wife and I are the only Obama people on either side. The only relative I can actually have a conversation with is my older sister. We can talk politics or religion with no animosity (she is religious, but not a zealot - I am a non believer) but a lot of excitement.

edited to say which sister

6. I had to put my cousin on my spam list
for sending out the endless drivel and crap. I just got tired of debunking (respond all as you did) the nonsense, although they did get upset when I did do that (but, is BCC so very hard to figure out?)

7. You gotta love him for his concern...
He was afraid that you might not be getting all of the Right Wing propaganda that he searches the internets for.

10. I have the same problem with family members.
We were constantly sent erroneous, political emails from my step mom (whom I love dearly), and I had hoped after a very contentious discussion over Labor Day Weekend (and several Appletinis), that we would all agree to politely disagree.

Needless to say I was quite surprised when my husband told me yesterday that he had received 2 politically slanted emails from her at his work email address (she knows better than to send them to me.) Part of me is ticked off she would send them after such an unpleasant weekend, and part of me is disappointed in her behavior. What is it with Republicans that they just can't resist poking the bear?

12. The best thing you can do with a cultist
is tell him to stop sending you cult email and tell him you will be forced to block his email if he doesn't respect you enough to honor the request.

Then do it.

If he needs to get in touch with you, he can use the telephone or a stamp.

14. I put my boses wife on my span list because, in amongst the good stuff, there are occasional RW
pieces of garbage. She can't understand why she isn't able to send me things anymore; lol! I wouldn'ty have done it, except I knew there would come a time when I would explode at her, and she isn't a lady you want to piss off.
