What about the FBI investigation of Wall Street CEOs?
Why are we hearing nothing about this in the chaos of this bailout? Nothing on TV, very little in print...there is silence about this, though I thought it was very, very important.

Doesn't an ongoing criminal investigation impact what is being legislated? Shouldn't it?

1. The bailout bill requires the Treasury to cooperate with the FBI

:wtf: I thought that would be a given. Anyway. I believe these CEOs are actually committing fraud and all kinds of crimes. They need to all be charged under RICO. Also, Secretary Paulson also needs to be investigated. He is CLEARLY complicit in this scheme. You have these CEOs working out backroom deals and spreading rumors on banks so that there is a run on them and the FDIC takes them over. Then these creeps get to buy the assets at fire sale prices. What the HELL did Paulson think would happen when he came out asking for 700 fucking billion dollars and spreading this doom and gloom scenario?

Paulson
Bernacke
CEOs of all of the investment banks on Wall Street
CEOs of AIG
CEOs of some of these thrifts
Fannie and Freddie

Just investigate EVERYONE and EVERYTHING.

2. I think that was already ongoing
and was unassociated with the bailout. They should clear out Gitmo of its current inhabitants , put the bastards in there and throw the keys away.

3. Isn't what has happened a form of economic terrorism levied
on the public and shouldn't it carry a similar reward as any other act of terrorism?? In other words, a slap on the wrist really won't do much to eliminate this type of behavior... but a stay in Gitmo?? Who can say.

Key finance firms 'probed by FBI'

The FBI has begun an investigation into four major US financial institutions caught up in the current financial crisis, US media say.

Investigators are reportedly examining possible fraud by mortgage giants Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac, the failed bank Lehman Brothers and insurer AIG.

Top managers at those firms are also being investigated, the reports say.

In the past year, as the US housing market slumped, the FBI began a broad inquiry across the financial sector.
