Palin urged to give up candidacy

WASHINGTON–A conservative columnist who welcomed Sarah Palin's entry in national politics says she's proven to be a dud and should step aside as Republican presidential candidate John McCain's running mate.

Kathleen Parker, writing in the National Review Online, says her "cringe reflex is exhausted" after watching the Alaska governor stumble through TV interviews and it's become clear to her that Palin is out of her league.

"No one hates saying that more than I do," Parker writes. "Like so many women, I've been pulling for Palin, wishing her the best, hoping she will perform brilliantly. I've also noticed that I watch her interviews with the held breath of an anxious parent, my finger poised over the mute button in case it gets too painful. Unfortunately, it often does.''

I'm hoping she doesn't quit. The comedy opportunities are too great with her still in the race.

Sid

5. Off topic -- but I love your nick
You run into fewer and fewer SCTV fans as the decades go by. It was the best parody show ever.

7. Thanks...
There were characters in those shows that truly resonated with audiences, but especially with Canadians. Even the Americans in the cast, like Andrea Martin, are considered honourary Canadians up here. And John Candy is maybe the most beloved Canadian actor this country ever produced.

The NBC version of SCTV was good, but nothing can come close to the original half-hours shows produced up here.

Cheers.

9. I was always a huge SCTV fan!
Catherine O'Hara always kept me in stitches, though I could never really figure out why - she has the talent to mimic extremely well, I guess.

8. If McCain feels he's down too much, they will do anything to win!
They would kick her off the ticket in a second if they thought that it would help them win. Palin means nothing to the Bush/McCain puppet masters For now, they still have some other tricks to try. But if the election gets closer, and nothing else has worked, Palin had better watch her back! McCain's backers would gladly throw her or anyone else under to win.

11. "San Franciskeh? Did you drove or did you flew?"
 SCTV was the best. I wish it were still around today to give a good lashing to so many things.

12. No, no, no! Sarah is just perfect for McLame!
Now, if they rig another election, I'll be the first in line with my torch & pitchfork, but until then, let this gift of comedy stumble on.
