If McCain backs away from a compromise bill, he'll be cozying up to the crowd he's been running from

If McCain encourages a republican revolt from a compromise finance bill or signs on to a republican alternative, he'll be falling back in with the same crowd he's been working all the election to separate himself from.

On the other hand, it didn't exactly help him to nuzzle up to Bush this week either.
