Could be weeks or months.

It is like the second coming of Christ, No one really knows but many claim it will happen in their time.

:sarcasm:

15. I figured the market is rebounding because of Bush's speech
and how *confident* we all are now that things are gonna be okay. :sarcasm:

I hear the Asian market dove after his speech, however.

3. IF you take away their heroin...
As long as the taxpayers support their habit, they'll be fine....for a while.

But, damn, their fixes keep getting bigger and bigger...

4. CNN has been saying all morning, never mind the DOW. It means nothing.
Now I ask. Why do they on a daily basis treat the DOW like a game show and run the ticker all day to watch it move up and down if it means nothing?

7. Because it's normally useful, but in times of panic, not really.
It's called volatility - the idea that the fluctuations in the market don't reflect real world factors properly at times like this.

21. The dow only represents 30 of the top companies
those companies may not necessarily be effected but the mortgage market.

BUT it's is proof that this Bailout is IRW Vote part 2

9. the deal needs to be done by monday morning.
before the markets open.

this entire week, the markets have been powered by news of a potential bailout.

it has given investors hope.

if a deal isn't signed, sealed and delivered by monday, traders are going to go crazy and start selling and we have the potential to see circuit breakers met at the new york stock exchange.

18. so why monday?
because the Paulson admin. says so?

because the market has collectively decided to panic on the 29th?

if it isn't done by sunday night, it won't be the dems at fault. look to Boehner & his ilk. they layed down with the no-regulation neoliberals, now they have the fleas. time to get dipped, bitches.

frankly, the dems in agreement & no pukes on board on monday guarantees McChickain's loss. Chimpy & Darth better start twisting some arms, because McChickain can't even lift his hands over his head. metaphorically, 'natch.

8. The Bounce Was Building for the Last Two Days
the down days this week were on extremely low volume. Sentiment indicators like the VIX indicated a reversal. It is not evidence there is no crisis.

If there is another failure or string of failures, it is likely to happen literally overnight or on the weekend, like the Lehman and AIG failures. We will only see the results in the market on the next day.

10. Judging the Market Based on one day of activity
is stupid, up or down.

Every time the market moves heavily one way or another, it's either a sky is falling or boom times according to some on DU.

You can't look at one day of market activity and base the health of the economy on it.

16. Only natural
Dow goes allways up when home sales drop by 11,5 percent (vs. 1,0 % expected) to 17-year low, when durable goods drop 4,5 percent, when unemployment soars - when the real economy tanks of the cliff.

19. Ummm, It's already started.
Why do you think there's a bailout plan and why was Bush on TV last night?

Why is Johnny wanting to "suspend" the campaign?

Please pay attention and have a little patience. You'll get your disaster soon enough.

20. Bailout not designed to help STOCK market - intended to unfreeze CREDIT market
and from what I heard this morning, while the stock market is up, the credit market remains solidly frozen.

No lending. To anyone. So for example, for business who use short term business loans (commercial paper) to fund, say, this upcoming payroll date, how are they going to issue paychecks?

My understanding is that this whole deal is designed to unfreeze credit enough to keep businesses employing people and producing stuff. And what I don't know is what that is going to start. I was kind of surprised to hear the credit markets hadn't been at all moved by this yet.

24. If you're dying in the desert, and come across a gallon of water...
You can feel pretty good for awhile. But then when the water ($700 billion) is gone, you're going to get thirsty again.

This is probably a dead cat bounce. Could even be a 1000 point dead cat bounce.
