2. He knows he will drop dramtically in the polls when...
The American people are subjected to being called "my friends" 1000 times. I'm a friendly person but I'm not his friend.

3. It's two of your choices plus one more:
1) He doesn't want to debate.
2) He hopes Obama will play along, and that will implicitly mean that Obama considers McCain to be credible as somebody who can help fix the economy.
3) He hopes to run out the clock.

4. Obama would knock mcphalin out of the ballpark
Mccain knows it and mccain knows he couldn't possibly look any thing less than GUILTY while facing Obama in a face to face.

6. Political points.

He's trying to look like a bipartisan leader who will put "country first." He realizes he's losing serious ground to Obama in the "leadership in crisis" category and he's trying to one up him.

8. All of the above
(except the "America first" option, of course)

Though I voted for the "Rick Davis" problem, I think the campaign needs time to work behind the scenes, as well as on air surrogate support, to find solutions to a sinking and stinking campaign.

Could this be a trial run for a "suspend the election" strategy by Bushco?
(I'm only half kidding)

9. Still waiting on that shipment of "Ultra-Depends"
and scared to death.

McCain's already lost and even he knows it.
