Debate commission lowering the bar for Caribou Barbie?...
..."At the insistence of the McCain campaign, the Oct. 2 debate between the Republican nominee for vice president, Gov. Sarah Palin, and her Democratic rival, Senator Joseph R. Biden Jr., will have shorter question-and-answer segments than those for the presidential nominees, the advisers said. There will also be much less opportunity for free-wheeling, direct exchanges between the running mates.

"McCain advisers said they had been concerned that a loose format could leave Ms. Palin, a relatively inexperienced debater, at a disadvantage and largely on the defensive."

The rest of the story: This is ridiculous

1. If McCain and Palin really want to put country first, then they
should both step aside and let real INTELLIGENT people lead.

2. But she's ready to be President
She can't debate, can't hold a press conference, can't exit her controlled environment.
Yet she is fully ready to assume the duties of President.

Those Republicans are so full of shit.

3. I was reading about that in yesterday's PA. Inquirer.
Doesn't matter one way or the other. Biden will tear her up. I want to see her get so nervous and tongue tied that her coiffed doo starts falling apart.

5. Ronald Reagan is beginning to look like freakin' Olivier, compared to
Caribou Barbie. Palin has answered questions from the panel of judges at a beauty contest.

I want to see a big freak-out from Palin, so that those who think she's okay will see the light.

Or at least, some of them may see the light. It pisses me off that the standard is so low for Palin,
as it was for *. Basically, if she doesn't literally piss her pants on stage, or claim little green bugs
are crawling all over her, she'll be considered to have done okay.

17. That's just it. Reagan WAS an actor.
He was accustomed to learning his lines and hitting his marks.

Palin? No fuckin' way. Failin'.

16. he better not tear too hard
biden has to walk a tightrope or the know-nothing women voters will feel sorry for her. never mind her qualifications or competence, if he "picks on her", palin will get sympathy votes no matter how she performs.

i expect he'll play it pretty safe with palin & direct his attacks at mccain.

Her capabilities are what do that.

9. I think this is to our benefit. The shorter the responses,
the more questions and the more opportunities for Caribou Barbie to flub up. This will also prevent the image of big bad Joe Biden beating up on poor little Sarah!

11. Especially when she prefaces every answer with "In what respect?"
But we do need to let her hang herself, rather than appear that Biden is somehow beating her up.

I watched some of her gubernatorial debate and she did fine. This is all about lowering expectations for Little Miss Sarah. x(

12. This is cowardice, and we don't need cowardice a heartbeat away from the presidency.
Edited on Mon Sep-22-08 02:45 PM by WritersBlock

If she is afraid to face Biden, what's she going to do when Putin wants to "debate"?

On edit - I wrote about this in my blog last night. This pisses me off, and I think we should really hammer on the national security aspect of it. The Republicans have, quite bluntly, put a coward in the number two spot on their ticket.

15. So, talk it up. Puppie Killer Barbie can't handle a real debate. The debate rules
are being changed to make it easier on her.

If she can't handle a debate how will she handle a crisis.

Well, isn't that just too bad?

It's not Joe Biden's fault if she's a know-nothing.
