instead of going to trail? What's up with that. A person a work was asking me about it and I'm clueless.

1. Never heard of it put that way.
I'm not sure what they mean by that. Adult Detention Centers are jails. Maybe they're meaning a work program or some other service offered through the jail..like substance abuse programs, mental health programs, etc.

2. Thanks, on edit, I used the wrong word.
Funny how one word can make all the difference in the world. The charge was for a misdemenor so instead of going to trial he has the choice to do this instead.

3. Everybody does, most of the time
Except for murder or a violent rape. Almost any first offense will go through some kind of diversionary program with a deferred sentence.

4. Do you mean diversion? Is it a drug offense?
In some states, some drug offenders are diverted from court to drug treatment. If they complete treatment, the charges are dismissed.

5. Ok, I got it. It's Adult Diversion Services
I think it's usually for first time offenders.

It uses the services I mentioned in my first post as well as others. The website link explains it further.

7. It i is pretty common program for alcohol/drug users.
Also called Drug Court in some states.
Usually the person is given option r treatment and/or fines, community service, and being monitored by a Probation officer, sorta like being on parole, as opposed to being sent to jail.
Any violation of the rules and the judge can impose jail/prison.
