just cannot get it? I've noticed when I try to teach one of these idiots something or state a FACT, the wingnut will over-talk me with their idiocy. Or, they will say 'Well there's nothing about that on Fox or on Hannity so until I hear it on the news, I don't believe it.' Or, they (my BIL, for instance) will say something stupid like 'How in the HELL do WE get stuck paying for all those idiots who bought houses they had no right to have? I don't have a house! I live in a fucking apartment and barely making it because it all goes to some illegal alien mother fuckers and rip-off artists. Phil Gramm was right! We are a nation of whiners! What he was saying was 'Quit whining about your troubles and get up and DO something about it!' Or, they scream "Bill Clinton! Bill Clinton! It's HIS fault!

I literally catch myself sizing them up for a good choking.

6. i was going to suggest this. i had 13 yr old son read that, also in the thread, authoritarian

article was very good too. had him read both. he saying, ya ya, this is what i am saying... he is in all repug area and argues a lot with repug kids. he says, they ignore fact, FACT, i dont get it.

If it doesn't get through the first ten times they are playing with you.

Just keep hammering the same question to them about 50 times.

Even if they don't get it you can still bludgeon them with it.


Is it effective? It sure makes them cry after a while.


Keep the question simple though so there is no wiggle room.

3. Creeping Falangism.

The increasing influence of the Christian Falangists on the Republican party has led to this model of arguing, which is to say no arguing at all. For, you see, the devil can trick even God, so they can only keep repeating their mantra/prayer/talking points ad nauseum. Developing rebuttals to your arguments is not only useless, but DANGEROUS to their VERY SOULS. To even CONSIDER a rational argument would risk being tainted by evil. This "philosophy", if you can call it that, is not only unrecognized as ridiculous by them, but it is actually a point of PRIDE. They are proud of the fact that they can resist the temptation to argue about it.

I'm not just saying this because I hate these people(I do), I've been told this by many of the Falangists themselves.

We meet again. If you are keeping track of my promises, as we roll along
together on the internet, I said in the Introduction that we would figure out why
authoritarian followers think in the bizarre and perplexing way they so often do. The
key to the puzzle springs from Chapter 2's observation that, first and foremost,
followers have mainly copied the beliefs of the authorities in their lives. They have
not developed and thought through their ideas as much as most people have. Thus
almost anything can be found in their heads if their authorities put it there, even stuff
that contradicts other stuff. A filing cabinet or a computer can store quite inconsistent
notions and never lose a minute of sleep over their contradiction. Similarly a high
RWA can have all sorts of illogical, self-contradictory, and widely refuted ideas
rattling around in various boxes in his brain, and never notice it.
So can everybody, of course, and my wife loves to catch inconsistencies in my
reasoning when we’re having a friendly discussion about one of my personal failures.
But research reveals that authoritarian followers drive through life under the influence
of impaired thinking a lot more than most people do, exhibiting sloppy reasoning,
highly compartmentalized beliefs, double standards, hypocrisy, self-blindness, a
profound ethnocentrism, and--to top it all off--a ferocious dogmatism that makes it
unlikely anyone could ever change their minds with evidence or logic. These seven
deadly shortfalls of authoritarian thinking eminently qualify them to follow a wouldbe
dictator. As Hitler is reported to have said,“What good fortune for those in power
that people do not think.”

This should be required reading for everyone on this board. A fast and entertaining read, it explains why you can't tell a right winger anything.

7. Be civil, keep the persona that you want to educate and when they start the...

but, but, but, change the subject or simply walk away. The only way to extinguish inappropriate behavior is to ignore it. Responding in any way will reinforce it. Ignore it, readily and immediately respond to appropriate behavior though, this stuff works...really.

They will learn that the only way to communicate with you is to interest you, no one likes to be ignored. It's a slow process, slow and simple. It appears that you're the one with the information that lets one move and speak with aplomb and confidence, you become an object of envy, someone to emulate. Never argue...inform.
