Just wonderful, John McCain says he is unable to use a keyboard due to POW injuries
I imagine we will be hearing this after the recent ad saying McCain can't use a computer or send an email. They are gonna throw out that his injuries he got as a POW prevent him from doing so. Saw someone mention a Boston Globe article from 2000 that mentions this (http://graphics.boston.com/news/politics/campaign2000/news/McCain_character_loyal_to_a_fault+.shtml).

Maybe since the media already ran a story about the ad saying that Obama was "mocking" McCain they won't revisit it from this angle.

I didn't see where he/she said that McCain can't use a COMPUTER, so much as that he can not use a KEYBOARD.

To the best of my knowledge, Steven Hawking DOES NOT use a keyboard with his computer.

around making this technology available to all types of disabilities. Most companies have a person in HR whose job it is to observe the person's range of movement and limitations and get the right equipment to accommodate the user and his/her disability.

But sometimes, the employee or user does have to initiate the request - either themselves or through their direct report.

If John McCain had been so inclined to have a keyboard that he could use with his shoulder limitations - he could have requested that assistance or explored all the different types of keyboards years ago.

So much so that his campaign staff had to take it away from him to keep him from leaping like an electrified frog from idea-to-idea based on whomever he'd spoken to last.

If you can dial a cell phone you can use a keyboard. Hunting and pecking, anyone???

Trying to claim that he can't type b/c he can't use the 100% proper finger placement and produce 30 words per minute is just the latest in an ongoing string of POW excuses.

look at the prerequisite for any entry level job beyond mcdonalds..... they want basic computer skills. i think in today's day and age a person expecting to run the country ought to have the most basic of computer skills. it wasn't about the computer as much as it was about mccain's general thinking and understanding of the world being of another century. how can the man deal with the issues we face today if he is in a different mindset altogether!

37. The significance of these McCain comments....
Edited on Fri Sep-12-08 11:52 PM by TwoSparkles
Since it is totally false that McCain's war wounds prevent him from using
email--this speaks volumes.

These pictures of McCain typing/texting demonstrate that John McCain will sink
to the lowest of lows--by using his POW status and his war injuries for
political purposes--even if that means lying about his POW injuries.

John McCain will lie about his injuries as a POW--in order to cull sympathy
from voters.

This is really shameless, and shows that John McCain has very little regard
for his time as a POW--if he would like about it and denigrate it in this way.

When you reduce your time as a POW, to a lie-based gimmick--you've sunk to the lowest
of lows.

42. You are forgetting how old he is...
... and the social status of the 'Typing Pool' in his young adulthood.
... and the typical gender of the 'Typing Pool' for most of his adulthood.
... and his lifelong 'Social Climber' status, when menial work like typing was 'manual labor'.

I suggest we take his sexist, outdated, elitist attitudes about what "using a keyboard" is, and totally nail him to the wall with it.

Oh, and from the OP, circa 2000(!), article:

---
Now, Keegan frequently travels with McCain's campaign and advises him on education policy. ''He's never going to win the Miss Congeniality award or take you to lunch, but he is always looking to do the right thing.'' she said.

from captivity. He obviously has some mobility issues, but he gives a pretty snappy salute. If he had to type with his feet, I might be inclined to believe this. I think this is pure CYA...to cover the fact that he is intellectually lazy and used to having other people fetch him information that he wants.

63. Then what about this NYT interview (7-13-08)?
(snip)

Q: But do you go on line for yourself?

Mr. McCain: They go on for me. I am learning to get online myself, and I will have that down fairly soon, getting on myself. I don’t expect to be a great communicator, I don’t expect to set up my own blog, but I am becoming computer literate to the point where I can get the information that I need – including going to my daughter’s blog first, before anything else.

Q: Do you use a blackberry or email?

Mr. McCain: No

Mark Salter: He uses a BlackBerry, just ours.

Mr. McCain: I use the Blackberry, but I don’t e-mail, I’ve never felt the particular need to e-mail. I read e-mails all the time, but the communications that I have with my friends and staff are oral and done with my cell phone. I have the luxury of being in contact with them literally all the time. We now have a phone on the plane that is usable on the plane, so I just never really felt a need to do it. But I do – could I just say, really – I understand the impact of blogs on American politics today and political campaigns. I understand that. And I understand that something appears on one blog, can ricochet all around and get into the evening news, the front page of The New York Times. So, I do pay attention to the blogs. And I am not in any way unappreciative of the impact that they have on entire campaigns and world opinion.

They are already playing the sexist and ageism cards with some disabled veteran mixed in for good measure. I do feel sorry for them, just not for those reasons.

77. Utter liar
I use a keyboard despite lots of arthritis. I don't much like chat and IM -- my typing is too slow -- but if all else fails I can use voice control, or any one of a number of other adaptive devices.

And a friend of mine has a device that lets her use her communications device (a tablet computer) with her brain waves. Does John McCain claim he does not have brain waves???

I'm sure McCain can. Although, Hawking just has Lou Gehrig's disease... I'm sure being a POW has much more physical limitations.
