KO points out use of interviewer first name "Charlie, Charlie, Charlie"...
Beware reporters...

Demand that your interviewee refers to you formally as Mr. Gibson or avoids such personalization, this is about power and framing who is in charge of the interview. The REPORTER asks, the subject answers.

5. I remember a commercial - I don't remember what it was for
But it was an interview between an older, grumpy looking guy, and a dude fresh out of college, and the dude was constantly addressing the grump over and over again along the lines of, "And that's why, Mister Dumbass, I think I would be a great asset here at Dumbass and Dumbass."

The grumpy guy looked at him and said, "It's pronounced DOO-MAS!" (The little sign on his desk said Dumas)

9. A lot of the repuke techniques are from that
I remember listening to the assertiveness training tapes in the 80s. The right wingers follow that advice. Keep repeating yourself until they give up and give in. Stuff like that.

I even remember in Toastmasters - where there was a segment where you got a sudden question and had to answer unprepared - the trick of turning the subject to something you could answer, if you had none at the top of your head. In Toastmaster's it was just so you could keep yourself talking for the 90 seconds. For these people, it's a means of "debate."
