Why Did McCain/Palin Approve Charging Rape Victims For Medical Exams? (An Email To Share)
Why Did McCain/Palin Approve Charging Rape Victims For Medical Exams?

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9nmk6BSUwEA

http://www.usnews.com/blogs/on-health-and-money/2008/9/10/sarah-palin-and-the-rape-kit-question.html

If someone tells you that Palin never "approved" of charging, you need to ask them why she never bothered to repeal the law in the first place in light of the circumstances. As it says in the video above, there better be an incredibly good explanation. And for their sake I sure hope it's better than :

"...While the Alaska State Troopers and most municipal police agencies have covered the cost of exams, which cost between $300 to $1,200 apiece, the Wasilla police department does charge the victims of sexual assault for the tests...

Wasilla Police Chief Charlie Fannon does not agree with the new legislation, saying the law will require the city and communities to come up with more funds to cover the costs of the forensic exams...."

PS---Palin also said . Only time will tell if we'll hear about these issues on television news. I say television news because about 74% of Americans report television as their primary news source. If they don't hear it there, they probably won't ever hear it...that is unless you share this email with them.

9. K&R. I 've found a LOT of people are unaware of this and we need to get it out. It's
a fact that should outrage ALL women regardless of where they stand on abortion.

And for her police chief to say that 'the rapists should pay' just proves how out-of-touch he is. HOW are you going to make them pay before you convict the man who did it? What if they are never caught? What if the woman couldn't afford the fee and therefore waived the kit???? Arrggghhh-- I just want to SCREAM thinking about it.

14. It outrages men too
Let's not forget that men have mothers, sisters, daughters, female friends and co-workers, etc. and would be just as outraged if someone they knew/love was raped and subjected to such disgusting treatment as to have to pay for their own forensic tests.

This issue was the ONE thing that finally got through to two male customers I spoke with at work where nothing else seemed to really move them... they were both completely LIVID at this barbarity.

32. I'm not sure what you mean by 'he doesn't agree with it.'
What he doesn't agree with is the legislation written to FORCE Wasilla to stop charging rape victims. He wanted the VICTIMS to pay, not the taxpayers and is pissed about the new law.

Also, they were NOT charging under the old police chief Palin fired and he began charging when she made this guy Chief.

If we are on the same page on this, I apologize in advance for not understanding your reply.

24. "Palin believes life begins at rape"
"Part of the reason Palin did not support paying for forensic kits is at the end of the rape exam the victim is offered emergency contraception.

Despite what the McSame campaign is saying, she took this incredible stance to be consistent with her view that government should require victims of rape and/or incest to carry the babies of criminals to term."

27. I knew that Biden ...
Had proposed legislation on this, and that as recently as last year McSame voted against said legislation. I could have guessed McPalin's stance. What kind of mother would force her daughter to pay for her own rape kit, then if she were pregnant after the rape, force her to carry the child to term. The woman is a fucking MONSTER!

29. That's one way to balance the budget.
Except she didn't do that either. Her town was millions of dollars in debt after she left.

"When Palin left office in 2002, Wasilla had “racked up nearly $20 million in long-term debt,” or roughly $3,000 of debt per resident."

31. It's bad enough that most rape survivors don't report
This would have a chilling effect on women who report. I'm a rape response advocate, and I often sit through 1-3 rape exams per month. I cannot imagine, at the end of such an exam, saying "will you pay for this with cash or credit." The Dr.s and nurse practitioners that do these exams are experts and have to be paid for their time, as they're usually on-call 24/7 for weeks on end. Then there is the equipment that aids them in identifying smallest of injuries in an bodily area (the down there) that is difficult to examine on the best of days, and the lab work (DNA ID) isn't cheap, and the state labs are often months behind.

I'm appalled that Palin did not call the police commissioner on this, and I'm even more appalled that McCain voted against reauthorization of VAWA. I also worked for a DV shelter for a couple of years, and my supervisor had a closed audience with Biden about VAWA, and she was blown away by his compassion and knowledge of the issues.

I can't believe there are women (and men) in this country that are supporting these lipsticked pigs.

On what Dobson calls "the radical homosexual agenda," her views are no less certain. She opposes same-sex marriage and supported a constitutional amendment to ban the practice in Alaska. She opposes spousal benefits for domestic partners and opposes extending hate crime laws to protect gays and lesbians. Her local Wasilla church is promoting Dobson's upcoming Alaska conference on curing homosexuality through the power of prayer.

and by KBR employees hired through the State Department, will those women have to pay for their rape kits too, if she makes it into the White House? Will women in the military be denied emergency medication preventing the implantation of an embryo if one is accidentally conceived during a rape. She is heinous, barbaric, and medieval.
