Alaskan DUers, how long is the commercial salmon season?
I have a feeling it's only a month long and no one *just* fishes salmon; they fish salmon during salmon season and do something else the other 11 months of the year.

5. Why shouldn't we "figure"?
There's nothing wrong with being an laborer, and if it wasn't for the fact they're trying to dissociate themselves from the petroleum industry we'd all hear about how heroic it is to work in the conditions around an Alaskan oil rig.

7. That's the point.
They don't even mention that the guy works for BP. They spin this outdoorsy man of a man but fail to say that he works in the oil industry..

3. Depends on the year... it varies... in general though, it runs from May through August
although not unbroken. There are openings that last a few days through that period.

4. Thanks; this is the kind of information I was looking for
The Repukes are running around like Todd Palin's a full-time commercial salmon fisherman; I didn't think there was such a thing.

When is the commercial fishing season? The salmon season last about 6 weeks. We start fishing around June 20th and go till August 11th. The commercial season is regulated by Fish & Game so the dates can change from year to year.

8. One can fish for King salmon year round
Salmon runs are normally in the summer and they usually l;ast about five months from mid may (dogs, kings) through mid October (dogs kings coho, pinks,& sockeye) there are many different commercial fisheries. Purse seining, drift net gilnet, set net gilnet, trolling, and they all have different times they are open. Trolling is usually open year round with the exception of a few days closure here and there.

9. Just a few months from june to aug
my cousins best friend owns a operation up there but has house in seattle to. They said this year was bad not as many fish so it didn't last as long. I don't know specifics but it starts in June and goes until sometime in Aug.
