Military Strategists lets hear from you Our Navy is at Straits Hormuz
and the Russian Navy is at the Carribean

get your board out of Stratego

if you were playing
would you leave the United States so open to attack by Russia with his fleet so close in the Carribean

and all US ships in the Persian gulf

Russia must be throwing the Pentagon in fits

the question is can US stand up to mutiple attacks on different fronts

Cheney and Bush over the 8 years has weakened our Military ...would you play the Iranian invasion knowing US is vulnerable to Russian fleet

Cheney and Bush are such losers

1. This is the reason for Palin
She's a distraction, and a well-planned distraction.

They aren't that incompetent; insane, yes, but they're getting where they want to go.

2. All the Ships are not in the Persian Gulf
Looking out my window in Newport News VA across Hampton Roads I can see two Nimitz Class Carriers, two combat resupply ships, 4 ticondroga class Aegis guided missile cruisers, 7 Burke Class Aegis guided missile destroyers, a couple of Perry class guided missile frigates. There are probably 4 to 6 attack submarines in port but I cannot see them. Think that should be able to handle any Soviet threat in the western hemisphere. Bet there is similiar Naval power in San Diego, CA and I suspect some more in Pearl Harbor.

4. Think Kings Bay
is strictly a boomer base, of course some of the old SSBN boats have been converted to carry a a lot of Tomahawk cruise missiles. They certainly could handle any Russian ships in the Caribbean

6. Why
What makes you think the Russians are thinking about "war?"

Are they moving troops in unusual fashion? Massing on the borders of other countries? Flying an unusual amount of military aircraft? Ramping up military production?

8. Good point they are and so are we
It reminds me of a chess game placing troops and ships in strategic places

So now I'm worried again

9. You missed my point
Military strategy is always a chess game. We move ships, they move ships, we have a training exercise, they have a training exercise. Not a big deal.

That's not to say Russia's land grab in Georgia isn't something to be watched because yes, it does bark of the old Soviet Union, but at the same time, it's not exactly the Cuban missile crisis.

They are NOT doing any of the things I asked in my previous post, that's the point. Other than their move into Georgia, the Russians are not massing troops anywhere. They're not flying ramping up military production. Russia is still relatively poor after the collapse of the Soviet Union and their military is a shadow of it's former self. Yes, still formidable when wielded against small countries like Georgia, but otherwise in no way capable of taking on NATO in a conventional war, even with a fatigued US military stretched thin by Iraq.

In other words, while Russia under the control of Putin will always warrant observation, don't get bent out of shape because a few ships move around. If there were really something to worry about, our nuclear submarines and carrier groups wouldn't be sitting in port.

and the now invasion of Georgia
Russia has stepped up there nuke bomber flights...whether they carry nukes or not one doesn't know but the capability is there
Palin has let the Alaska National Guard deteriorate and Alaska is very vulnerable

14. Forgive me
but I think you know very little of military strategy. I don't say that to be offensive, but don't get in a panic over youtube videos with scary background music.

The Russians commonly fly Bears along the international border with Alaska. We do the same with our recon planes. We do it to Russia, China, North Korea, etc. They spy on us, we spy on them and both sides know the spying is going on.

Understand that the Bear bomb is an ancient airframe, designed back in the early 50's. It is mostly used for recon and anti-submarine warfare. The Russians have far more advanced bombers, all equally capable of carrying nuclear weapons. The Bear is about the least threatening plane in the Russian military inventory.

The Bear that came near the Nimitz had already been intercepted by four US fighter aircraft. If it had shown any hostile intent it would have been destroyed. The Russians pretty much wrote the book on this sort of saber rattling, and that's all it is.

Alaska is vulnerable to what? You think the Russians have the amphibious capability to invade Alaska? Not going to happen. That's about as likely a scenario as something out of movies like Red Dawn. It would take a massive (and obvious) build up of troops, air and naval assets on the Russian east coast. The Alaskan National Guard would have a very small role in the event that something like this were to happen.
