McCain's history of hot temper raises concerns

WASHINGTON — John McCain made a quick stop at the Capitol one day last spring to sit in on Senate negotiations on the big immigration bill, and John Cornyn was not pleased.

Cornyn, a mild-mannered Texas Republican, saw a loophole in the bill that he thought would allow felons to pursue a path to citizenship.

McCain called Cornyn's claim "chicken-s---," according to people familiar with the meeting, and charged that the Texan was looking for an excuse to scuttle the bill. Cornyn grimly told McCain he had a lot of nerve to suddenly show up and inject himself into the sensitive negotiations.

"F--- you," McCain told Cornyn, in front of about 40 witnesses. snip

Six people present have written statements describing what they saw. According to the accounts, McCain waved his hand to shoo away Jeannette Jenkins, whose cousin was last seen in South Vietnam in 1970, causing her to hit a wall.

As McCain continued walking, Jane Duke Gaylor, the mother of another missing serviceman, approached the senator. Gaylor, in a wheelchair equipped with portable oxygen, stretched her arms toward McCain.

"McCain stopped, glared at her, raised his left arm ready to strike her, composed himself and pushed the wheelchair away from him," according to Eleanor Apodaca, the sister of an Air Force captain missing since 1967.

McCain's staff wouldn't respond to requests for comment about specific incidents.

1. I think when people talk about wanting Obama to go on the attack this is what they mean
Obama ought to make at least one, probably several, ads pointing out that McCain has a troubling history of unpredictable, inexplicable outbursts against *people of his own party*. Is that the man we want dealing with world leaders? With his own cabinet who might have to tell him things he doesn't want to hear? Is it America?

See what I'm going for?

13. A number of people report that, some years ago, when McCain
Edited on Mon Sep-08-08 10:40 AM by whathehell
was on a Campaign bus, Cindy McCain began gently ruffing up his hair, saying "you're getting a little thin on top". He spat back at her "Well at least I don't pile on the makeup like a trollop, you cunt"!...and he said it in front of people, e.g. the reporters on his bus. This is mentioned in the new book "The Real McCain"

I was dumbfounded that a woman would have so little self-esteem as to not react to that...Apparently, she just "smiled", no doubt in embarrassement.

Were I her, I would have slapped his face, called a press conference, and then divorced that prick.

But he's a feminist because he selected a woman for his VP slot. :sarcasm:

6. Yes, indeedy! We don't need another bottom of his class "intellectual'
with a hot headed temperament in the WH! Are these incidents included in mcsame's claimed experience?
If so, this type of experience is not needed. He should be shunned by veterans.

18. We need film.
Words are just not enough to get the point across. With such a legendary temper, is there really not any film anywhere with him losing his head?

5. With these 40 witnesses, who saw...
McCain acting like a complete asshole--you would think that more of them would DO SOMETHING!!

How can they stand around like this--doing nothing--while this hot-headed, traumatized man
ascends to the Presidency???

You know what is so scary about this? Bush was nuts and he nearly destroyed this country, but McCain
sounds more imbalanced and crazed than Bush ever was!

This is a man who continually promises us more war--while he still carries around unhealed wounds from
his own war experience.

More politicians need to speak out about this. McCain's recent bizarre and petulant behavior toward the media--
because the media refused to act as his PR agency--is indicative of how he treats people who don't kiss his
ass.

This is not a leader. This is not a man we want negotiating with world leaders. He's a swirling tornado
of crazed emotions, who will no doubt leave more destruction than Bush.

23. This Will All be Excused, Because the Victims are Women
This is exactly the kind of thing that the Democrats should be making ads about, as a very important issue, but this is exactly the kind of thing that the Obama campaign, the official Democratic Party, and the corporate media considers completely off-limits, that is, anything really serious about male abusiveness and/or violence, and anything relating to the hated, trivial women. These known situations should be carefully written, aimed at women, not drained of their content and generalized (minimized), the way males always do it, and presented as an insult and abusive treatment of women, as much as a threat of reckless leadership. Obama, who refused to answer a woman reporter's question here in Michigan, calling her "sweetie" instead, is not impressive here. The media, which exploits women as pornography, and which viciously attacked and jeered at Hillary Clinton from beginning to end, is also not impressive. Of course, this will not get covered at all--and it is scary...

every newspaper, blog and news channel. Our candidates need to be addressing this, also.
