2. What inspires you?
Why do you want Obama to win?

What false point to you see over and over again in the corporate media that you take issue with?

Is there a thread here at DU that makes a point you wish everyone in your community could read?

Also see talking points/suggestion box on the site.

5. Me too especially when Rudy was snarling about it.....
It shocked me they were so sarcastic about community leaders while holding up these "SERVICE" signs!

Especially since Palin was in beauty contests and sportscasting in Alaska when Barack was doing community organizing.

9. My LTTE: Attacks on Community Organizers Are Personal
Attacks on Community Organizers Are Personal

I was appalled to hear Giuliani and Palin make sarcastic comments about Senator Obama's experience as a community organizer in Chicago.

This was a slap in the face to everyone who, for example, volunteers to be a mentor, to help keep children away from trouble and to bring a positive experience into their lives. The Republicans at the RNC mocked a very constructive element of American society at a time when we need it most.

Meanwhile Cindy McCain appeared on stage wearing a $300k outfit. I get the message, alright. Republican leaders have no idea what real people do for their communities every day.

It's not just information, it's about feelings. You expressed those feelings.

4. PS, remember: You don't have to do a term paper, just a couple of sentences!
The shorter and more to the point the better....we really should be FLOODING newspapers with LTTE's!

16. I don't think 6 is too much.....
Whenever I see a really long LTTE I tend to skim it, so being concise is important, but I don't think 6 sentences is too long.

11. My letter to The Washington Post
There have been a number of letters published complaining about the coverage of Scary Palin's daughter being pregnant. I pointed out that it's 1) indicative of how the abstinence-only "education" she touts clearly failed in her daughter's case; and 2) if Barack Obama had a teenage daughter who got pregnant by a guy whose MySpace page said he was a "f-ing gangster," the Repukes would be having a field day.

I was quite generous and assumed that Bristol Palin's family was loving and supportive and tried to instill their values, but many girls weren't as fortunate. Keeping my fingers crossed that it gets published.

18. I like your point about the "f-ing gangster" vs. "f-ing redneck"
They tried to do a total "what a nice young man" imgage remake on this guy when his MySpace he clearly sounded like a jerk aka "i'll kick you ass if you mess with me" and NOT READY FOR KIDS....EVEN SAID HE DID NOT WANT THEM!

33. Well, Bill Maher did make the point about the redneck/gangsta first...
...but I want to make sure that folks who don't get HBO or don't watch him if they do know the hypocrisy of the Repugnants. And I was fuming well before about how they'd be all over Obama if he had a teenage daughter who was pregnant. And how this is a big indication that abstinence-only "education" doesn't work.

That's another thing--if someone else you agree with makes a great point, shouldn't you use it?

13. If you all send the same letter, that's astroturfing
The right-wingers do it all the time, and many editors are wise to it. They will not print letters that they get multiple copies of.

If you want to write on ANY topic, do it in your own words.

27. No it's not the same letter as everyone else. You enter your zip code
and the web site produces a list of suggested newspapers. You type your own subject heading and letter in the blank space and the site sends an individual copy of YOUR LETTER to each newspaper.

I thought it was a form letter too, and I didn't figure that would be a good idea! It's NOT! It's your own words.

19. Just curious, how would they know?
The emails are sent with only the recipient's address in the "to" column.

I figure in a big-city market like L.A., what are the chances both papers are going to print my letter? Although I suppose if that happened I might get on a blacklist or something?

Googling, probably and then filtering you if you broke their rules.

17. Here's a letter inspired by Odin2005
I am of the opinion that Sarah Palin is the last gasp of the theocrats that have controlled the GOP since the eighties. If Palin pulls down McCain's campaign, the theocratic right is done as a political power in America.

I am disappointed that McCain allowed them to force Palin on him. He had two very competent choices in Lieberman and Tom Ridge, but both were unacceptable to the theocrats and those working in their behalf.

If McCain wasn't courageous enough to say no to special interests and his own party, then how is he going to fare against Putin or Ahmadinejad?

Put it into your own words folks. Editors know the difference. They don't like form letters, and talking points are obvious.
