Michelle Obama with Paula Deen on The Food Network
No, I'm not making this up. I'm not a fan of Ms. Deen's, but I'm definitely TiVoing this one.

http://blogs.villagevoice.com/forkintheroad/archives/2008/09/michelle_obama.php

Sarah Palin makes me want to throw my television out the window and start setting shit on fire. Luckily for my neighbors, an email from the Food Network arrived just in time to calm me down. Just gaze at the picture above, breathe into a paper bag and think of hot lard. See? All better now.

On Paula Deen's Sept. 20th show (titled "Grease is the Word," of course), Deen will help Michelle Obama get down with the people by teaching her how to fry.

-snipped-

From the press release:

On Saturday September 20th at 7:00pm ET/PT, Michelle gives Paula a taste of her family life on the road to the White House and shares fun facts, including the first meal she made for Barack, what kinds of local foods the family seeks out on the road and that Barack makes a mean chili! And, with Paula showing her secrets for frying up some popular American comfort foods, this is one party viewers won’t want to miss!

And Barak makes a mean chili! You hear that red staters? What's more American than making a mean chili?

1. This is SO cool
Actually, I get a kick out of Paula Deen (even though most of her recipes make me queasy), and the idea of her and Michelle doing a show like that is about as good as it can get.

Brilliant. Just brilliant.

4. I do agree with you on her recipes — but people just adore Paula Deen.
You're right, it is brilliant.

15. What? You don't like eating three sticks of butter in one meal?
What's wrong with you, girl?

16. LOL! Her recipes seem to have butter, eggs, cheese, cream cheese...
all in one dish! But she's a pip.

:)

On edit: Ina Garten's food is pretty similar -- just maybe a bit more upscale. Both are fat- and calorie-laden, that's for sure.

5. Let's not forget about Paula Deen's sparkling personality that bubbles like champagne.
She's a silver fox. Whoa Momma. She's living proof the south just isn't what it used to be. Change is a powerful thing.

3. The look great together, Paula has the type of warmness that
would make Michelle feel very comfortable. Paula is in Savannah, this is good for the Obama exposure. Bet Michelle's a pretty good cook herself.. Can't wait. We need reminders on this, get off the computer and DU and watch this....LOL.

7. Paula Deen is as good ol' girl as it gets
She's perfect for introducing Michelle to Southerners.

Now if the Deen boys would hang out with Barack! That would just about clinch it!

She was so thrilled, that I knew she must be a Dem.

14. Really?
Because I recall seeing a show she did before I was very familiar with her, and she had Jimmy Carter on and called him her favorite president.

I recall that because it surprised me. Before that I'd assumed she was probably a rightwinger (I know, I know ... Southern stereotype from me).
