An investment banker says that if gas prices drop below $3.00 per gallon
...by November 1st McCain/Palin ticket wins.

At 2:00pm the price per barrel for crude had hit $109.00 and the per gallon wholesale price for gallon was at $2.73

1. Isn't it strange that oil wells are down in the gulf and an refinery offline
And the price of gas went down this week?

21. I wasn't suggesting that it is any more valid, but it struck me as interesting
...since retail gas prices have dropped from $4.10 per gallon just three weeks ago to $3.59 today here in Orlando

5. That's crazy, everybody knows that if gas prices drop like that
it is because Obama made it happen. Who do they think they're kidding.

in my neighborhood. The repukes are up to no good. By the time Nov. 4 rolls around the price, whatever it is, will look reasonable compared to what it was over the summer. The repukes think people are stupid, and with good reason. Sometime just before the election chimp will claim the reduction is because the Republicans got tough with the oil companies and wanted to give the American people some well deserved relief. That kind of shit sells.

On Nov. 5 expect huge overnight increases.

They don't want to look too obvious. But by the time the lame-duck period is over, yeah, the prices will be generously high for them.

8. Gas prices aren't the only thing going on with this economy
People are still losing their jobs, and while that continues, it will turn into a vicious circle. Meanwhile, they're drowning in debt and have to pay so much to service it every month they barely have enough left over for food, transportation to work, and half their utilities. Their houses are continuing to decline in value, meaning their net worth also does, and there is no way to use the house as an ATM if they're still solvent enough to want to convert high interest debt to low interest housing debt.

The whole picture is that inflation is far above what Washington says it is and people know it all too well. They confront it every time they visit a market.

Yes, falling gas prices might jolly them along a little bit, especially men. Women do the bulk of the shopping, though, and they're not going to be fooled one bit.

20. I agree, but gas and food prices are what seem to hit the average
...person, so I guess the theory is that if average citizens see these items come done by that degree then the perception will be that the economic situation is on the upswing and if the economy is improving why change

9. Low Gas Prices Helps Democrats
If gasoline goes under $3 a gallon, it is still too expensive.

However, it takes some of the political imperative out of "Drill! Drill! Drill!"

So, contrary to conventional wisdom, I think low prices for fuel actually helps Obama.

15. It's The Entire Economy, Not Just Gas Prices
Today, we saw the price of oil dropping, but the market lost 345 points. Why? Bad economic data on jobs.

22. The economy is dependent on energy costs of which oil plays a major role
...so if the republicans have control of that single factor I suppose they can shift voter opinions enough to win in a tight race

26. Oil Prices Are Dropping Because Demand Is Down
Gas prices are only one piece of the miserable economic pie. You have housing values melting down. Job losses. Inflation. Stagnant wages and Health care.

and wonder why gas is still nearly $4.00/gallon here in Santa Fe. It's pulled back maybe thirty cents in the past month. BFD.

24. I don't think that this year simple manipulations like that are going to work
I think even the dumbest of the dumb have got smarter than that as of late. It is not secret that the nation has been raped, it is no secret who did it, it is no secret that we are being manipulated by oil companies and I don't think it will be an avoided issue this time around.

If you say to a neighbor, 'you just watch those god damned Republicans drop the price of gas right before the election to give everybody a happy face and then swear to god it was all McCain's doing - horseshit I say" and see if you don't get nodding agreement. Everyone knows what's going on and who's to blame. We won't be fooled again.
