One of the persistent memes in the Republican line of attack against Barack Obama is the notion that he is an elitist, whereas the G.O.P. represent real working Americans like Levi “F-in’ Redneck” Johnston.

It caught our attention, then, when First Lady Laura Bush and would-be First Lady Cindy McCain took the stage Tuesday night wearing some rather fancy designer clothes. So we asked our fashion department to price out their outfits.

Wow! No wonder McCain has so many houses: his wife has the price of a Scottsdale split-level hanging from her ears.

1. I looked at this just twenty minutes ago and thought about posting

it but then I wondered if Michelle is that frivolous? I don't see how she could be with having just paid off student loans and all but.........?

I was SHOCKED to see those prices. If you read down the comments a jeweler type writes in that the earring price for cindy is way out of line. I wouldn't know....that's for certain! HA!

$60k for a pair of earrings?

That's still a house in an urban area which if a family was struggling to get ahead would gladly take.

Now, having heard cindy speak last night, I understand where she thinks we are and that is basically on our own. I could have given her some credence had she outrightly said, "I ws lucky...my father made possible the American dream." However, we know that wasn't uttered and probably wasn't even a thought in her head.

6. Someone told me that Michelle Obama's dress one nght was from Target

and it was very fetching on her at the Dem. Convention. Next day, those dresses flew off the racks at Target.
