The issue isn't that Palin's teenage daughter is pregnant. It's that her mother opposes
any talk in the schools about sex education, opposes the workings of Planned Parenthood, and opposes teenagers having access to birth control. Teenagers are curious animals and most of them will experiement and if Palin and other fundamentalists have their way they will experiement without knowing the facts and the consequences. That's the issue.

4. How did she get pregnant?
She got pregnant because nothing says "Stupid!" better than a horny 16-year-old.

Someday, let me tell you the story of two teenagers, going at it with abandon and gusto, in full view of the Lollapalooza production tent. They were behind a faulty chemical john and had to be ankle-deep in that special brand of mud that only such a malfunction can create. What made them stop was our peals of hysterical laughter.

I mean, sometimes you just gotta laugh. ;-)

different things are involved.

I worked full time, 3 mos after each of my daughters were born; they're both in 20s now, have had special boyfriends most of the time; I don't/didn't lecture; I've always trusted them to do the right thing; they've both promised they'll 'wait.'

2. No: the issue is that, if a grown adult can lie to the people of her state about something as
obvious and elemental as that, then she can lie to the country about even bigger things.

Hmmm... come to think of it, that might get the Repubs to vote for her, after all!

47. Child has Down's Syndrom - will require lifetime care.
If child is Palin's daughter's, then insurance will likely only cover until daughter turns 18. Daughter will be turned down for insurance b/c of pre-existing condition. If Palin claims child as her own, insurance is forced to carry her until 18. Difference is 16 years of expensive health care costs.
If Palin releases her medical records regarding pregnancy, the matter can be swiftly put to rest. If she won't, then naturally rumors will abound that she is covering something up, given that she's already apparently lied (regarding water breaking).

56. Thanks for clarification on the insurance fraud
I think you are exactly right. The insurer would have covered the pregnancy and delivery for the daughter, but once she went off the family coverage in a few years, I think the child would also lose eligibility. I suppose Sarah and Todd could have acknowledged that it was their grandchild and adopted him to retain his insurance eligibility. But, if these rumors are even true about the parentage of the baby, they did not choose that option

12. And the issue isn't that "Ann Coulter is a Mann", it's the "hypocrisy"...
Except Ann Coulter isn't a transgendered and Palin's daughter very likely wasn't pregnant.

The only hypocrisy is coming from those on DU who jump on smears against Democrats and then start whispering campaigns against a Republican's kid.

If it's verified that this is the case, go for it. But until then be polite to her kids and attack her policies, positions, and lack of experience.

JUNEAU -- Gov. Sarah Palin shocked and awed just about everybody around the Capitol on Wednesday when she announced she's expecting her fifth child.
.
"I thought it was becoming obvious," Gov. Sarah Palin said. "You know, clothes getting snugger and snugger."

Then, are there any pics of her imbibing during those 7 months prior to her announcement?

Am not asking this re: because she has a Down's syndrome child....drinking while pregnant can lead to FAS syndrome...I know that.
But, after already having had four kids, and if the most recent addition to their family was given birth by her, wouldn't she have stopped drinking?

...just wonderin'

March 6th, 2008 01:37 AM

JUNEAU -- Gov. Sarah Palin shocked and awed just about everybody around the Capitol on Wednesday when she announced she's expecting her fifth child. <snip>

The governor, who recently turned 44, told a handful of reporters as she was leaving work to expect a new member of the first family, then headed to a reception at the Baranof Hotel to feast on king crab. <snip>

Palin beamed as lawmakers, Cabinet members and others came by to congratulate her at the Baranof reception, a legislative event Kodiak officials sponsor annually. <snip>

Her husband, Todd, was there holding the couple's sleepy 6-year-old daughter Piper in his arms.
Palin said she's not aiming to take any time off from her job as governor, assuming all goes well with the pregnancy. She said when she had Piper -- Palin was mayor of Wasilla at the time -- the baby was born on a Monday and she returned to the office on Tuesday.
"I've always been a believer that God's not going to give us anything that we cannot handle," Palin said.

Aside from Piper, the Palins have three other children: Track, 18, serving in the U.S. Army at Fort Wainwright in Fairbanks; Bristol, 17, a high school junior; and Willow, 13.

Wow, you sure got a lot out of two lines. What I mean is that without any proof at all, pursuing this line against Palin feels a little National Enquirer. Why not speculate on Troopergate? Or raise holy hell about how she doesn't believe in abortion even in cases of rape, incest or where the health of the mother is at risk? Acting like a bunch of old women drooling over headlines in the supermarket checkout does not really do a whole lot to make Dems look like the 'high road' party.

But hey, if being a gossipy old biddy does it for you, take off.

59. I agree that THESE are really important issues.
Edited on Sun Aug-31-08 12:15 PM by LeftishBrit
However, what's bothering me is that even if the story were true, what is it that makes it so terrible - especially compared with all the seriously bad things about her?

Is it

(1) That the daughter's alleged pregnancy suggests bad upbringing? I disagree there! These things do happen.

(2) That the mother would have lied about it?

If she did, then she lied *to protect her daughter* (and maybe also herself and the rest of the family) within a fundie community that would have condemned this. A generation or two ago, it was quite common (at least in Britain and I'm sure elsewhere) for mothers to adopt their teenage daughters' babies and pass them off as their own. It protected the daughter and it also protected the grandchild, who would otherwise be called 'illegitimate' or 'bastard' and deprived of inheritance rights. It is a bad thing that Palin subscribes to and is bringing up her kids in a fundie community where such protection might be necessary - but we already knew that. Why go after a teenage girl and a baby *even if* the story is true?

There have been huge numbers of threads on the baby issue. There have been far fewer threads on the fact that Palin supported PAT BUCHANAN - not just briefly, but over a period of time. What is worse - possibly lying to protect your daughter in your ultra-religious community, or supporting a near-fascist? Especially if you could be a heartbeat away from the presidency.

Lying about sex, or support for fascism - which is worse? Going after the first and not the second reminds me of Congress impeaching Clinton for lying about a blowjob, but not impeaching Bush for lying the USA into a war!
