Watched Bill Moyer's Journal last night with Merle and Earl Black
Twins that both teach Political Science in the South. When Bill asked them to define "Values" they said "You know Life Values, Pro Life Values" Which to me pretty much said outright , what they consider "Values" is Anti-Abortion and not much else. It is a one issue only term according to these two "experts". Both seemed very Republican to me..

1. They also could not explain why so called Christian
Conservatives always vote for presidents who are not very religious. My take is that they only vote for people with a big mouth. Reagan, McCain and both Bush's are not very religious. They just use religious people to gain power.

7. Yup. They were glibly evasive on that point.
Why do so-called Christians vote for hypocritical slacker pResidents?

2. Family values, especially in the South, ARE "Pro Life" & "Anti Gay".
I can't think of anyone I've met anywhere in the 3 southern states I've live in who would answer that any differently.

8. WRONG! I live in Nashville, and I hardly know anyone "pro life" or
"anti gay". In fact, I know and work with many gays.

Of course, I don't go to church. :)

3. One of them also mentioned that there aren't any conservative Democrats
I guess they don't know about DINOs.

5. I think the term "conservative" is also defined differently by many
people. The fundies would like you to believe that ALL conservatives are like THEM. They're NOT! I've met a lot of people who say they're fiscally conservative & socially liberal.

6. Pro Life. Katrina. Babies in the heat with no clean water, no food, filthy water
swirling around their parents' knees. When I saw that on the tv 3 yrs ago, I cried for those children. If that happened in any other country, would we fail to drop in clean water and food just as soon as possible? We would clamor for aid to them. What in the hell kind of pro-life Republics could look at that and not weep?

9. That sums up these so-called "pro-life" types.
They're not pro-life at all. They're just anti-choice, which seldom seems to correlate with a great love of life. If they were truly pro-life they would be opposing the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan where innocent children are being killed for empire. They would not have made excuses for the horrible way the Bush administration handled the Katrina disaster. They would want everyone in this country to have access to health care. In short, they would be progressives.

10. I couldn't figure out what they were doing on his program
Certainly there are more qualified people to speak on the southern conservative situation or voting patterns around the country than those two clowns. Normally his guests, no matter where they fit in the political spectrum, are articulate or can present some grounding in fact for their assertions. Not so with those two last night, at least not to the level I expect from Moyer's programming. Very disappointing.

11. I agree in part with what they said re:cultural differences, but it's old thinking

and I believe the times are changing.

The Internet is having a growing effect in allowing people to communicate directly with another and most anyone else over vast distances that would never have happened before, communication is the key.

There is an experiment you can perform, get a large group of people to sit in a circle and whisper something to the person next to you and by the time it comes around, the message changes. That was our communication system before the Internet and the truth would be distorted to no end.

One other point regarding regional differences, while they do exist, I believe the corporate media work to magnify them on behalf of the oligarch/corporate agenda, playing both sides against he middle.
