Next time somebody tries to say Obama hasn't "served" his country
here's what you say: There are kinds of service other than BOMBING AND KILLING "GOOKS" AND "RAGHEADS".

McCain got shot down, justifiably so as he disobeyed orders, and taken prisoner in an UNJUST war of American aggression. Obama has served his country an far more ways than John McCain has as evidenced by his Wikipedia entry, which is correct in these matters as near as I can tell:

~~~~~~~
Obama worked as a community organizer and practiced as a civil rights attorney before serving in the Illinois Senate from 1997 to 2004. He taught constitutional law at the University of Chicago Law School from 1992 to 2004. Following an unsuccessful bid for a seat in the U.S. House of Representatives in 2000, he announced his campaign for the U.S. Senate in January 2003. After a primary victory in March 2004, Obama delivered the keynote address at the Democratic National Convention in July 2004. He was elected to the Senate in November 2004 with 70% of the vote.
As a member of the Democratic minority in the 109th Congress, he helped create legislation to control conventional weapons and to promote greater public accountability in the use of federal funds. He also made official trips to Eastern Europe, the Middle East, and Africa. During the 110th Congress, he helped create legislation regarding lobbying and electoral fraud, climate change, nuclear terrorism, and care for returned U.S. military personnel. After announcing his presidential campaign in February 2007, Obama emphasized withdrawing American troops from Iraq, energy independence, decreasing the influence of lobbyists, and promoting universal health care as top national priorities.
I don't know about you, but I call THAT service.
4. I have heard tell that his squadron was told to turn around and come back,
and they all did EXCEPT HIM, and he got shot down.
No link, but I heard it somewhere on DU (of course).
8. if that's true- shouldn't he be billed for that plane...?
IF he refused an order to return with the taxpayer's jet fighter/bomber- isn't that a lot like stealing it? :shrug:
9. Obama sacrificed a life of luxury to defend the poor and neglected..
I'd take that over sitting in jail for 5 years. What good did that do America?
12. Might I suggest emphasizing Obama's service without shifting the topic to
Edited on Thu Aug-28-08 04:49 PM by Occam Bandage
the nature of the Vietnam conflict? You're not going to win over many people who are concerned about Obama's service by babbling about Vietnam being an "unjust war of American aggression," or by claiming that John McCain somehow deserved to be imprisoned and tortured. As John Lennon said, "if you go carryin' pictures of Chairman Mao, you ain't gonna make it with anyone anyhow."
14. I'm going to have to disagree with you. My gloves are off.
Of course, everybody I encounter here in SoCal is already strongly for Obama, so I don't have to say all that to anyone's face. But I reserve the right to rant online.
15. As they should be. Just be sure you're punching at the right target.
"So what if McCain served in Vietnam? Vietnam was an unjust war of American aggression" plays really well among people who already believe that--that is to say, people who wouldn't vote for McCain if the Diebold machine promised them a C-note and a blowjob.
Among the general populace, though, it'll probably cause your target to think you've just got an axe to grind (since you've just changed the topic from Obama's character to LBJ's decision to escalate in Vietnam). They might get mad about that, they might be amused by it, or they might just brush you off. Any way you slice it, though, it ain't gonna win Barack votes.
