Poll: Swing States Want A Democrat
The latest set of polls from Quinnipiac University shows that although Sen. John McCain has gained on Sen. Barrack Obama in recent weeks, more voters would still like to see a Democrat in the White House.

The poll, taken from likely voters in Ohio, Florida and Pennsylvania from Aug. 17 to 24, showed that Mr. Obama trails Mr. McCain in Florida; tying him in Ohio and leading by 7 percentage points in Pennsylvania. No candidate has been elected president since 1960 without taking two of these three largest swing states in the Electoral College.

Results from the independent Quinnipiac University polls show that Mr. McCain leads in Florida at 47 to 43 percent, a reversal of the 46 to 44 percent lead Mr. Obama held there as of July 31. Mr. Obama holds a 44 to 43 percent lead over Mr. McCain in Ohio, a shortening of his 46 to 44 percent July margin. In Pennsylvania, Mr. Obama leads 49 to 42 percent, an unchanged number from a month ago.

1. It is really quite simple, if they want a continuation of the bush/mccain policies
Edited on Wed Aug-27-08 08:17 AM by still_one
of the last 8 years, then they will vote mccain

However, if they are concerned about healthcare, medicare, social security, the war in Iraq, the economy, education, the environment, and other vital issues, they will vote for Obama

9. No problem
I figured that that must have been a typo because it just didn't make sense. However, I definitely agree with your point. I believe that this election is really more of a referendum on the state of our country and whether we want to keep on doing the same things we've been doing for the past 8 years or if we want to move in a new direction and on this score Obama is clearly the agent of change on most issues that seem to be most important to people right now and I think most people realize this. One thing that he has to overcome is McSame's "maverick" image which could make it just as palatable for most voters to vote for him and feel like he will also represent at least a degree of "change" from the Bush/Cheney policies of the last 8 years. Of course, McSame's status as a "maverick" is one of those "legends" that the national press has built up over the years but has no actual basis in reality as he has supported Bush/Cheney on more things than he's broken with them over and even on some of the things that he initially publicly disagreed with them he ended up compromising away his supposedly principled position in the end. People also seem to think, once again without a strong factual basis, that he is more "qualified" to be President because of his military service and age when compared with Obama's relative youthfulness and limited national experience. Obama's biggest challenge for November IMHO will be convincing just enough people that he has the kind of judgment necessary to lead as POTUS and to keep us safe. I think that he will be able to do it, particularly with Biden at his side. I just hope he doesn't allow himself to get smeared to death by the right wing slime machine and that McSame is exposed for the cheap and out-of-touch political opportunist that he is.

5. Ground Games Win Elections...
This is Karl Rove 101...how the GOOP was able to fill the church busses and steal the '00 and '04 elections. That's sure not the case this time. Lookee here:

Camp Gramps says they're going to use an "air campaign"...non-stop TV ads to make up for their lack of organization in key states. While we've seen some initial success, the shelf-life is limited and as we get closer to election day, that air campaign will get diluted as others also take to the air.

The Obama campaign has gotten where it is due to a tremendous grassroots organization...and thanks to Dr. Dean's 50-state investment, there are now Democrats in places that hadn't seen a Democratic organization in decades (and totally neglected by McAuliffe). Thanks to the protracted primary season, Democratic voter roles are at record levels. If we work to get these people to the polls in November, the GOOP is in real trouble...

6. Thanks, great post.
I believe Obama's ground game will be the difference in November.

But I'm surprised we are trailing in Florida field offices. Maybe McCain is playing with the numbers.

7. Fallout From The Florida Primary
Remember, Senator Obama didn't set up field offices there in respect to the DNC boycott. I'm hoping the DNC is making up for lost time now.

BTW...this graph is from fivethirtyeight.com

It's a great site that calls 'em as they see 'em.

8. Thanks, forgot about the FL primary issue.
Yes, that's a great site. I check there almost every day, but I missed that graph until now.
