Koreans Start Dominating The LPGA, So They Mandate English-Only.....
Edited on Wed Aug-27-08 08:51 AM by BlooInBloo
They diminish themselves even further. They are no longer the best lady golfers - they're the best lady golfers who speak English. How pathetic.

http://www.thegolfblog.com/2008/08/lpga-to-require-players-to-speak.html

"Golfweek reports that the LPGA has just passed a new rule to require all players to speak English. Hilary Lunke, president of the Player Executive Committee, explained the rule as a way to ensure the pro-am events at each tournament continue to draw interest from the public. The LPGA also explains the "English proficiency" rule as a way to help increase the LGPA's marketability.

So is this rule discriminatory against the Asian players? Hmm...let's see. Out of the 24 LPGA tournaments this year, 7 were won by Asian players mostly, if not entirely, from Korea. Mexican Lorena Ochoa won 6 tournaments herself."

EDIT: Included snippet about Korean upswing (rimshot).

6. This is an unnecessary, authoritarian move by the LPGA........
Edited on Wed Aug-27-08 08:45 AM by CrownPrinceBandar
and the last sentence in the OP says it all:

"The LPGA also explains the "English proficiency" rule as a way to help increase the LGPA's marketability."

Besides, isn't English considered compulsory education in SK? So most would speak it anyway?

I say let the young ladies speak however they please.

edit: bad grammar

10. One would think the players would be really against that
Athletes usually want to prove they are the best. Not just the best among the English speaking.
