Last night the Canadian political channel, C-pac, carried feed from C-span for coverage of the Democratic National Convention. I just happened to catch it while channel surfing. I came in just as Ted Kennedy finished his speech, but caught the rest of the speeches, including Michelle Obama's. It was great! I feel so lucky that I got to observe this. This is historic,eh?
I hope it's okay for an old white chick to say "Obama is da man" and "Michelle, you go girl!"

74. While I really love kids, it's unique for me to be so totally taken by two adorable hug magnets.

It surprises me, but they bring tears to my eyes they're so unbelievably appealing to me. It'd be ridiculous understatement to say I'm a fan. I must feel close to what a proud father feels ... it's really that much. I've taught, coached, mentored and 'adopted' kids all my life and it's been enormously rewarding ... but THOSE two, for whatever reason, impress the living hell out of me. (Maybe that's strange for an old white phart ... but it could hardly feel more natural and healthy.)

I'm hardly a big Obama fan -- he's my third choice ... not nearly liberal enough for my taste. So it's not some political 'groupie' thing at all. It's a human thing. It's maybe anchored in some basic, instinctual protective and nurturing drive ... but for some reason they seem to hit ALL the right notes in my own peculiar composition of values.

Over a year ago, probably early in his campaign. He spoke at Dartmouth. She was with him and, in fact, arrived first with the girls. She stopped and spoke to me and a friend who was from her neighborhood in Chicago and the said that she was heading back there with the girls because she had a PTO meeting in the morning. That was all I had to hear.
