Edited on Mon Aug-25-08 11:58 AM by mistertrickster
Think about it--he's got more houses than he can keep track of and spends a quarter of a million on servants.

You think that every single individual in his army of employees, practically all of them working in ARIZONA AND CALIFORNIA, are all AMERICAN?

Not bloody likely.

Lou Dobbs would have fun with THAT story.

3. ANd I said before and will keep saying, while a quarter of a million dollars
is a LOT of money (hell, it'd solve every problem I have!), it's not enough to pay for all the people needed to keep all those properties dusted, stocked and ready for the McCains 24/7. They must have the equivalent of a full-time cook, two house maids and someone to do the laundry and run errands. WHat about chauffeurs to pick up the cars at the airport?

Besides which - why is McCain reporting this on his tax form, anyways? Is he paying for this, or is some sort of family trust paying for servants at a so-called "investment property"? How much of a tax write-off is McCain getting to hire servants?

16. undocumented workers is what I generally use
or undocumented immigrants (especially if I don't know if they are working).

At the very least, using illegal as an adjective is better than the noun - as if "illegal" is their name/identify. Illegal immigrants is better than illegals.

18. Most of the "houses" are condos, only 3 houses
One is occupied by an elderly aunt.

One is shared with another couple.

Several are guest houses.

A few are rentals.

All are owned by $100M Cindy, not John.

If you consider that the rentals don't need regular help by maids and such, and guest houses only need occasional/minor (part time) upkeep, then the price for help doesn't seem that unreasonable.

As a long time Arizona senator, it is VERY unlikely he hired illegal aliens.

This "7 houses" angle doesn't seem to be helping Obama much in the polls.

21. It's getting overplayed...
RW and MSM have already applied their "class envy" and "punishing success" memes to the gaffe, so we won't get much more effective mileage from it.

26. They're (she's) worth $100 million
8 properties is rather low for that kind of wealth.

It is not unbelievable that a husband, who's finances are completely separate from the wife's, would not know exactly how many properties are owned by the wife and her companies. Many were relatively recent purchases, some recent sales. Its not like "we have soo many, I can't keep count" or "I'm too old to remember." If he'd guessed, and gotten it wrong, the attack would be the same. If he'd guessed and been correct, the attack would be the same. I hate to say it, but it does stink of class envy. And while many Americans won't be able to relate to that kind of wealth (or the kind of wealth of any modern politicians), they are still kind of living the American dream, and people respect that. Or at least would trust someone who has success making and managing large amounts of money with the enonomy.

I hope this isn't the reason for Obama's dip in the polls.
