6. He Should Worry About Re-Regulation, Not Fairness

What a pile of steaming crapola this one is. Another attempt to scare the sheeple for ulterior motives.

The "Fairness" doctrine never had anything to religious broadcasting (unfortunately)...what he says, no matter how biggoted and divisive, has always been protected by the First Ammendment...and if anything religious "broadcasters" have long gotten special treatment from the FCC. His scare bit is for other reasons.

Religious broadcasting is considered on the same level as educational or public broadcasting...non-profit entities that operate on a different set of rules than "commercial" religious...the ones who show up on most teevess. They benefitted greatly from the past decade of "deregulation"...dominating not just most the educational band frequencies (that could be assigned to local schools...where they were intended) but also made a mockery of the "LPFM" or low power ruling...adding thousans of religious stations on the dial across the country.

This dude should be Jewish or Muslim or any other "minority" religion (even Catholic) and try to get an license...or try to challenge one...good luck. The NRBA...National Religious Broadcasters Association is a strong lobby that has turned the "lower-end" of the FM band into a fundie radio "plantation"...offering free airtime to preachers like Parsley or Dobson with little chance for anyone with an opposing view or different religion from having any redress.

The new right wing boogie man on the "Fairness Doctrine" is to prevent re-regulation of radio...breaking up these large radio networks in favor of local ownership and control. Parsley and the GOOP want to put rules in that all but prevent a station from ever changing formats...even if it changes ownership...to "codify" hate radio and religious stations to maintain their dominance on our public airwaves.

When religion turns into a business, it's time to pay your taxes..

The exemption for churches goes back to a time when small towns had to pay for the house the minister & his family lived in, and most ministers were poor..

and of course the catholics did so much charity work and often ran schools, so they got tax exemptions too..

BUT when churches started buying up huge swathc of land, and over-improving their churches & buying airplanes & mansions & limos..well.. something should have been done then and there..
