Former Secretary of State Madeleine Albright Calls Bush/Putin Pre-Georgia Invasion Meeting in Beijing at Olympics “Very Peculiar” on CNN’s August 20 “The Situation Room.”

“I’m speaking from myself personally. I found it very peculiar, that as the Russians were on the borders of Georgia and also practically going in, that President Bush and President Putin had kind of a passing conversation at the Olympics and I also think Secretary Rice should have gone to Moscow.”

Wonder if that's what Secretary Albright is hinting at?

2. Yeah, I don't think "peculiar" means much here.

If I have the timeline right, it was real early on when they met. The interesting question is did either one know at that point what was going down? And if so, was he intent on getting a little dig in before the situation became clear? Or maybe even both of them? It would be great to have a transcript, but I don't expect we will get that lucky.
