Make September 10th a day to change the world!

Dear Friends,

On August 1st, I delivered to Speaker Nancy Pelosi; a petition bearing the names of over 100,000 Americans that, like us, feel that the President must be held accountable for abusing executive power and disregarding his Constitutional obligations.

Sorry for yelling, but so many people think there's no hope for impeachment that we have to let them know it COULD happen.

20. Don't take this the wrong way...Dennis Kucinich is the wrong face for the Impeachment movement
Let's first set aside the notion that most Americans want an Impeachment of the President. Yes, I know various polls have said that most people would support Impeachment charges if... but compared to what I saw in the Watergate days, this is not an issue that most people are concentrating on...there's the War, the economy, Health Care, Mortgages, etc....but if you are going to to proceed with an Impeachment effort, Dennis Kucinich isn't the person to lead the charge, any more than Bob Barr was a good face for the Impeachment of Bill Clinton. Both politically (too radical compared to most Americans), and quite frankly too "weird looking" (Kucinich's hair; Barr's mustache)

The Watergate impeachment succeeded because of two major forces. First was "Senator Sam" Ervin, Chairman of the Senate Watergate Committee, a brilliant legislator who could still pass himself off as a "country lawyer". His methodical investigation of the the issues allowed the second force, the House Judiciary Committee to take up the discussion of Impeachment charges with strong public support, and the efforts of Chairman Peter Rodino, Barbara Jordan and Father Robert Drinan in particular, none of whom came across as wanting to Impeach President Nixon, helped pass the ultimate charges which would, in the fullness of time, have resulted in the Impeachment and removal of President Nixon.

I know Congressman Kucinich has a lot of fans here but he does not present himself well to the average, non-political American. I don't advocate pursing Impeachment in the first place, because we all need to focus our energy on the November elections, but if you insist, find another leader.

34. Worth doing but...You're right, DK won't sell this to the Public
I kinda agree and disagree, I would vote for it before I vote against it :-)

I signed it because even though I don't think it is going anywhere, I will take any opportunity, no matter how unlikely, to force some accountability onto this criminally disastrous president. I think, at best, if it makes The Million it may get a mention in the MSM, give a fractional boost to Obama and chip away a little at Georgie's Legacy a little bit more.

Like the perfect storm, the fire triangle and the formula for Gunpowder, successful conflagration depends on all the essential elements being present in just the right quantities.

There is some fuel out there, a huge well of unhappiness with GW ranging from disappointment to seething anger but it needs something to coalescence round. It is too scattered, it needs to be gathered together and piled into a bonfire. Katrina may have almost been it but too many people had mixed feelings about where the real blame lay, there was a lot of it to go around. Lying us into Iraq is certainly impeachworthy, but it lacks a real smoking gun for the irrefutable Lie. We all know it was a case built on untruths but they have been successful enough obfuscating to make it just look like incompetence rather than conspiracy.

The frustration with the declining economy, increasing cost of living driven by oil prices, massive trade and budget deficits, rising unemployment, erosion of benefits, increasing health care costs, etc, all give a growing sense of heat. We all know things are getting worse.

It still needs a spark to set it off. That's where I don't think Dennis has the charisma, presence or leadership to pull it all together and ignite awareness in the general public. You may disagree and I too admire him in many ways, but he's not The One. He is a leader for some, we need a leader for All. BTW, I am not convinced Obama is The One either but that train has left the station.

For impeachment to happen there needs to be an Event and a shaper of the Narrative to that event that pulls it all together for the great mass of people who right now only have general unhappiness. To gather all the fuel of the last 8 years of mistakes and lies, focus the heat from the growing awareness of everything that is getting worse and set it all ablaze with the spark of the Event and Charisma of the person who tells the Event's story.

But meanwhile I will keep sending Dennis's link out by email...

35. I would disagree with the Dennis doesn't have the charisma,
presence or leadership part of that. If the media were doing their job and people would wake the fuck up and pay attention, it wouldn't matter who the messenger was or what he looked liked.

Unfortunately that's one of the major problems with people these days. They want glitz, glitter, and a gimmick before they're willing to open one eye.

Personally I find Dennis K. very handsome :loveya:

As per my stance, the Democrat leadership hasn't done a damn thing about anything when they were swept into 'majority' and they aren't going to do a damn thing about anything now. TO THINK OTHERWISE IS ONLY FOOLING YOURSELF.

A Non Movement is when people don't participate. Who knows what may, or may not, come of this? Do you have some inside knowledge on this signature drive that you would care to share? Or is it simply you don't think it's worth the time and so others should just follow your lead because you say so? Just curious.

... 1 million petitions with each petition having 1 million signatures and NOTHING will come of it just like all the OTHER petitions that I signed and nothing became of those either. So why keep playing to same old song and dance over and over again?? So if signing petitions that gets nowhere makes you feel better than by all means, go right ahead and sign each and every one you come across. Now tell me, out of all those petitions you've signed, has anything come of them?? I see no impeachments...nor do I see Rove, Shrub or ANYONE being held accountable so far after 2 years so pardon me if I no longer refuse to play the same game over and over and over and over again.

... there is nothing to give up if there isn't any Dem leadership to pick up the issues and move it forward. All these petitions are fruitless as long as the Dem majority refuses to honor the signatures and so far, I have not seen any of the Dem majority honor ANY signature(s) for 2 years now but I am positive the cowards will do something when they no longer have to fear a filibuster :sarcasm:

47. So you think the Judiciary Committee hearings last month
only took place because Dennis smiled sweetly and said please? They took place only because some of us refuse to lie down, shut up and give up and petitions were delivered.

Now with that being said you're more than likely correct that it will not lead to anything.. however you or I can not say with certainty that that something will not happen because of this continued push. If for nothing else when my children and grandchildren ask me why we didn't do anything, let history reflect that not all politicians and/or americans are hopeless lazy non-informed slugs.

it was in the hopes that Dennis would shut up and sit down.

I am all in favor of Dennis' efforts, but they haven had enough support from the other members of Congress.

I am not saying that we should do less, but do A LOT MORE.

The only thing we can do now is work our asses off for the Democratic Nominee. If the gop steals it, we've got to be ready, willing, and able to take it right back (with force if necessary). It is increasingly becoming about self defense and the defense of our nation.

If for nothing else to have on record the documented crimes of the bush/cheney crime co. Televised Judicial hearings was all it took to get the ball rolling with nixon but alas these days the people are too lazy and the media is compliant with their masters. But I'm not giving up... not yet anyway.

I agree that we must work our collective asses off for the Dem Nom and yea I've been ready for the 'force' part for many a year now. Hoping for the best but prepared for the worst if need be.
