This one's a slow mover. The core is headed right for me, but I'm still in the first half! My porch resembles a lake. :o

6. We're doing fine here in SE Florida...
pretty flooded out, pretty windy, but it doesn't look like there was much damage. Mother Nature'll have to do better than that!!

(I didn't mean it. Please no Cat 5s, please no Cat 5s, please no Cat 5s..)

3. Doesn't look so weird...
the backtrack westward is a little odd, but not if there's an area of high pressure over the mid-Atlantic.

Jeanne -- now THAT was a weird storm. Damn thing was heading out eastward in the Atlantic, then did a complete 180 loop, came back and nailed us.Check out the track in the storm's wiki:

11. I don't know about that....At least you know that a hurricane is coming....
..... The Big One comes like a thief in the night.

That said, I'd take California over Florida for various and sundry other reasons.

7. I will never forget that!
Jeanne went out and we thought we were in the clear. She then looped back, and ... Well, that was the end of my old house, sorry to say. Goes to show that you can never be too careful with these things.

13. It's common for a storm to cross the FL peninsula and strike again. What IVAN did was weird!
Edited on Tue Aug-19-08 10:09 AM by Brotherjohn
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hurricane_Ivan

Hit as a Cat 3, went across the SE US, came out to the Atlantic, turned around, crossed the FL peninsula (2nd land crossing, and after going across the entire SE US, which almost always kills a storm), THEN re-emerges in the Gulf and strengthens to Tropical Storm Ivan (again).

THAT was weird!

15. We've had a typical winter storm pattern over the southwest
for the past week, so this doesn't look that bad to me. It all depends on what the steering currents are doing, and if the southwest is any example, the jet stream needs a chiropractor.
