Bumper sticker problem solved (re: living in freeperville)
As I have previously mentioned, I sometimes live in South Georgia which is not known for it's tolerance, and I didnt really want to put a permanent bumper sticker on my car (to prevent keying, slashing of tires, etc).
I went to Staples today (we at DU dont hate them for anything right now do we) and picked up a customizeable magnetic vehicle sign kit. It contained 2- 12"x18" white sheets and some lettering. I took several of my bumperstickers and placed them on the sheet and cut them out. I made 6 with the first sheet and now I need to buy more stickers.

The cars look good and now I can take the signs off when I drive through freeperville

4. Nicely done!
So how bad is it there, politically? There's a slight chance that I might have to move from my very blue city to Atlanta in the next year or two on account of my job, which I desperately hope won't happen; but how freeperish is it, really? Also, I drive a Saturn which is made of plastic and magnets won't stick to it -- so I'd even be screwed re: bumper stickers.

8. Atlanta is a huge metropolis with people from all over the world. Savannah is a big small town
They still have gun racks in some of the pickup trucks around here (esp in the rural areas outside of town)

I used to live in Atlanta and all I have to say is I hope your car is comfortable, because traffic is terrible.

10. The traffic is another reason I don't want to move there.
Besides the awful climate and the possibility of freepers. I just hope I don't have to start shopping for a comfortable car that magnets will stick to.

16. Former Atlantian here
All depends on where you live. Stay out of Cobb and Gwinnett counties. I lived down in Little Five Points, very liberal area along with Virginia Highlands, Candler Park, and Midtown. Decateur is good as is the Emory University area.

6. Now just do something about the license plate
I'm a Ramblin' Wreck from Georgia Tech and a hell of an engineer,
A helluva, helluva, helluva, helluva, hell of an engineer,
Like all the jolly good fellows, I drink my whiskey clear,
I'm a Ramblin' Wreck from Georgia Tech and a hell of an engineer.
Oh, if I had a daughter, sir, I'd dress her in White and Gold,
And put her on the campus, to cheer the brave and bold.
But if I had a son, sir, I'll tell you what he'd do.
He would yell, "To Hell with Georgia," like his daddy used to do.
Oh, I wish I had a barrel of rum and sugar three thousand pounds,
A college bell to put it in and a clapper to stir it around.
I'd drink to all good fellows who come from far and near.
I'm a ramblin', gamblin', hell of an engineer.

12. 5th Rec! Good to know I can get those magnets at Staples!
I used to scotch-tape bumper stickers inside my car windows for easy removal. This is better.

14. I know this is naughty....
and probably even slightly illegal, but I occasionally stick an Obama or Feingold or even one of my remaining Kerry'04 stickers on unsuspecting freeper cars right over their repuke de jour sticker...

17. Hey you guys, that's bullshit. Leave that kind of crap to the Repukes.
For the last four years I've sported my "Mission Accomplished My Ass!" sticker and my Kerry for President sticker. I live in a liberal enclave in North Carolina, so I don't worry about anybody doing anything nasty to my vehicle while I'm there. But, I travel down east a lot to areas that are heavily BUSH territory and also are smack dab in the middle of our military bases at Camp LeJeune and Seymour Johnson, and occasionally to Virginia Beach where the Navy and Seals bases are located.

I am proud to say that I have had no vandalism or defacement of any of my vehicles or my stickers. The worst so far is a redneck asshole who rode by honking his horn and giving me the one-finger salute. That was in deep Georgia. Then a few minutes later I stopped at a service station and was told by two locals that they really liked my stickers.

We should all be able to proudly display our stickers without someone defacing them or damaging our vehicles. Do unto others as you would have them do unto you is a good idea in ALL THINGS.
