Sensenbrenner rips FBI & DOJ on Lehrer News Hour
I am shocked. I think that the Justice Department has overreached. There's something seriously wrong with the internal management of the Justice Department, and that better be fixed, because if it isn't, the support for the internal part of our war against terrorism is going to evaporate rapidly.

REP. JAMES SENSENBRENNER: Well, you know, first of all, we do give law enforcement in this country a lot of discretion. And that's been the way since the beginning of the republic. The FBI has very clearly abused its discretion, and in its abuse of the discretion, is going to end up bringing about a reaction by the Congress.
I think the use of NSLs is going to have to be restricted by statute. And very frankly, I think there ought to be some heads that roll here, and I'm not calling for the resignation of Director Mueller. But whoever was responsible for this incredibly sloppy administration is going to have to be called to account.

And, remember, we've had this following the ham-handed dismissal of seven United States attorneys and a raid on a congressional office that actually forced the president to intervene to curtail the activities of the Justice Department. And I can't remember if that's ever happened in history.

1. Fat Jimmy...
Removes his surgically-altered lips from Bush's behind just long enough to give himself some political cover.

Now, about RealID, Fat Jimmy, you facist scumbag...

2. Hey something is coming down
He's not triangulating for nothing, he said that these abuses (attorney firing and abuse
of NSL requests) are the worst abuse that he's ever seen.

3. Well, there is an outside chance...
He's feeling a bit used and hung out to dry. After all, it ain't like he told these criminals "no" ever in his career, is it?

The life of a craven power suckup never ends attractively.

4. well, he said that there's a chance support of the Patriot Act
could evaporate over this, I would say it's 2 to 1.

10. Hey, I think you are right, it gives away too much power
with no oversight, all they have to say is what they are looking for is related to an
investigation and that's all they need, and the person being investigated doesn't know
that their bankaccount, etc is being looked at, and who is supposed to stick up for your
rights, your bank, your phone company, your internet provider????

...and then immediately watched it again on another PBS station to be sure.

Have the worms turned? Could the Repugs being growing some scruples - is it possible?

11. look I would read the entire interview if I were you
when he starting ranting that fbi director Mueller was like the saying the path to hell
is paved with good intentions, when Sensenbrenner who is not an emotional person loses
his cool, something major is coming down.

and the path to hell paved with good intentions, whoah, I said to myself, am I hearing
things????

The democrats hearing on the patriot act?

After repeated criticism of the Bush administration, the Republican chairman of the House Judiciary Committee yesterday gaveled a hearing to a close and walked out while Democrats continued to testify -- but with their microphones shut off.

that most everybody knew nothing about what was in the Patriot Act except those who wrote
it, and who was Mr. Patriot Act: Sensenbrenner, himself.

Could it be, could it be, the release of proof that the fbi spied on Congress, not on you
or me, we are peons, but the high and mighty ones that sit in our congress.

23. *LOL*,...Sensenbrenner?!?!?!!! He must be "skeered" the neocons,...
,...are doing their usual 'arm-twisting' except with even greater power to frame any one they please.

I never liked that man, much. But, if he's becoming more cognizant of the oppressive (tyrannical) activities of this administration, all he has to gather is the courage to oppose such gross violations of this nation's basic structure AGAINST such violations.

Courage. hmpf  Courage by more members of the Republican party than a very quaint few (the courage of Ron Paul) must be acknowledged. Face it, the Bush&CO committed REPUKES have profiteered way too much to back either their platform or their COMMON constituents (profiteering companies excepted),...

I'm ranting, without any particular direction on this,...just ranting.

Sorry.

27. Agreed.
Repub and Dem pols, members of the media, members of the UN, etc. .........

I truly believe that blackmail has been the primary strategy and trump card of BushCo.
Why else would Warner and Hagel vote against their own resolutions, as they did last month? It was bizarre.
What else could possibly account for that?

Here's video of Hagel, all fired up ... before he caved
