Wesley Clark's Foreign Policy Advice: 'Get it stopped.'
Edited on Fri Aug-15-08 07:55 PM by kpete
General Wesley Clark on CNN's Situation Room

August 15. 2008
Transcript by Reg NYC

General Wesley Clark: Well, what has to be done regardless is we've got to get the neutral observers in there. France first proposed this in the cease-fire agreement. I, I think it's absolutely essential. Barack Obama has called for it. We've got to have people on the ground. With all due respect to CNN (chuckles) and, and BBC, we got to have real observers in there who can tell us where the Russian forces are, what they're doing and help us serve as the link to say, to go right back to Moscow and say, say, 'Mr. President or Prime Minster, you said the forces were pulling out, but they've just moved to this village and that village. Get it stopped.' And you've got to have that kind of instant communication from the bottom to the top.

6. I read that we had to reposition some of our satellites to view
this area. So much for the idea that Bush started this thing. Clark is so right about getting neutral peace-keepers on the ground instead of Russians, but I read also that we have troops and contractors in Georgia. Aren't they doing their jobs? This appears to be yet another bungled Bush matter. Remember, the province broke off in 1991-1992. That was during the first Bush administration, the administration of Bush's father. Why were the Russians allowed to be "peace-keepers" in that area in the first place?

Thanks for the link to the transcript! It's refreshing to hear a bit of common sense with regard to this situation.

4. Barak please make this man the vice president!
He's got McCain beat in military and foreign policy experience. I doubt there's any way they can "swiftboat" him. I think he'd be perfect for VP.

8. Thanks for what?
I don't understand why this is such a terrific statement. It implies that Russia started this mess,
which they didn't. We're supposed to just march in and tell them to knock if off after Georgia,
run by a guy that we put in place, attacked a city killing their peace keeping mission that was
authorized to be in that city and after the Georgian president signed a cease fire and then pulled a
sneak attack on the Russian allies.

I'd like one, just one, of the "leaders" to tell the truth about this: It's a mess created by the
grandiosity of the great friend of Bush, the Georgian president, right after he agreed to a cease
fire with the Russians When a small nation double crosses and attacks a much larger nation, they
generally get their clock cleaned. The Russians have a rather black and white view of the world
so its in our interest to calm them down, which might take a bit. Then we can get back to using
Georgia for strategic value in our endless consumption of oil.

9. Wicked boy...
Pointing out that the straw man of the 2004 election,
the four star talking pundit of Fox "news," Mr. "Lets'
start a civilian corp where the president can send them
to war zones in the event of an emergency as HE alone calls it,"
Wes is supporting the MSM neo con version of events?

Imagine that.
