Are we going to keep hearing about how Reagan won the Cold War now?
Or has that statement become inoperative?

2. You bet. It will be touted as the correct strategy for fighting Cold War II...
More "Star Wars"...

More direct confrontations...

And much more Military Spending...

An unchallenged lie coming back to bite us in the ass.

6. yep - we'll hear MORE
Because there is no critical thinking or factual reporting going on - Reagan's "win" will be seen as a blueprint for the future. :(

3. The way to win the cold war is to never stop fighting it.
Pretty soon we'll go back and win WWII and then the Civil War. And in our spare time we may have to go back and win the Crusades.

President Reagan, and the US was _not_ winning the Cold war alone. It was a project who was in danger for going warm for more than 40 year. And it ended very peacefully in 1989, when the Berlin Wall was been tearing down and the Eastern European Country's was kind of liberated.. But the Cold war would not have ended the way it was doing if it was not for an another man Gorbatsjev, who was the soviet leader at the time. Before he was elected as the leader, it would be impossible for anyone to se the end of the cold war. But with him a new generation, of leaders was coming to age. And compared to the rest of the leaders Gorbatsjev was a very young man, in his early 50s

Both Reagan and Gorbatsjev was afraid of what could happened if a nuclear war was coming. (Yes, even the SDI Reagan was afraid of that) And both wanted a little better place to their kids and grandkids.. Even that I do believe that Gorbatsjev never believed USSR to disintegrate as it was doing in the early 1990s.. That i something I really believe he never believed to happened.. But the actions he was doing, Perestroika and more openness was doing something to the soviet union... And the brake up into 15 independent states in early 1990s was something we all Sat back and was little confusing about.. Specially why was at school at the time, and have to learn 15 new country who it once was ONE country...

I was in 6 grade when the Berlin Wall was been tearing down. And I remember my old folks home was telling my to se at the evening news, And they was saying. "this is something you have to se, this is history". And it was that, History in the making.. Usually the news was off limit for some reason, but this was something I was compelled to se.. And I still remember when the Soviet flag was lowered for the last time, and the russian federation flag was rising for the first time over the Kremlin

5. Didn't the USSR collapse because they spent so much on military involvement in the Middle East? ....
Wait that sounds familiar......

Sir

The USSR collapsed on many grounds. Not just was the economy killing the country, but intern politic, etnich problems, and after Gorbatsjev came to power all the problems who could have been taken under the rug for many year was coming to light. When you must stay for hour at end to get potato's, or you have to fight for some meat, the country indeed are in some problems - or at war... But USSR was officially not at war, so it must been some werry bad with the country

USSR discovered that being like powerfully like US, with a much better infrastructure, and a modern industry was hard. Maybe to hard.. Some leaders in SUPK worked hard to just let USA working their weapon, and trying to get USSR on their feet again.. Modernize the country and make the more compatible to the rest of the world... But the cold war, and old politic leader who was not daring to do the right thing... And when they finally did it (again Gorbatsjev) it was to late...

One thing that killed the USSR was the very expensive war in Afghanistan. It was costing the USSR many, many billions a year to try to fight off the "Holy warriors" who was fighting for their freedom in the Afghan mountains.. Even that the USSR before 1984 possible would have killed most of the warriors, was it not for the intervention by the USA in the cloak of CIA and the Stinger missile. It would have coasted USSR maybe more money than it was wort to keep Afghanistan inside their influence.. After USSR was going back over the border, the afghans started to fight against them selfs, and in 1996 the Taliban got control over the most of the country... And it is ironic that Taliban in their infants was paid for, by the US tax payers. As an other organization called "the case" or as it are more know today as. Al-Qauda.. The United States of America have indeed make some pretty impressive enemies over the years in the middle east... And I guess, if someone have dared to following where the money have come from, many other organization would possible to be have getting money either from CIA or NSA or other of the organization who want them to exist. So the US can came back in a decade or two to blow the country they exist in to ruins.. No I am not cynical, just practical because it have happened before...
