Does your car reflect your political views?
Do you either drive a known "liberal-mobile" (Subaru, Volvo, VW, etc.) or have bumper stickers that reflect your views? Share here.

It's pretty obvious. (Although I did once see a Prius with a Bush sticker, and my head almost exploded from the cognitive dissonance.)

My only problem is getting the damn calipers off to replace the pads on the disk brakes. I can get my Allen wrench in the slot but don't have enough room to get sufficient torque on the thing to budge it! With my '72 Torino, that was never a problem.

48. Great design... terible engineering.
After less than 110,000 miles, I'm on the second engine block and third transmission. The overdrive transmission is the MOST terrible, with a faulty controller design.

That said, I love the look, comfort, road feel ... all the human factors. It's the right size and gets decent mileage (22-24mpg).

44. I had one too.
1990, silver convertible, with the 3.0 Mitsubishi. This motor had a factory defect: snap rings on the valve guides were missing, causing it to smoke a lot after a while. I rebuilt the head myself, then eventually the auto transmission. It was a fun car. Drove it all over, from Big Bend to the Smokey Mts. I'm currently fixing an old, beat-up Neon that drowned during Katrina. A couple of grand to recycle a car that gets 30+ mpg is better than buying a new one for 10x as much. Plus, no one will want to steal it. :D

Btw, MOPAR rules! :D

In 2002 I traded in my SUV for a Mazda Protege... I get 25+ MPG and it's an ULEV (Ultra Low Emissions Vehicle).

The way you drive, and how well kept your engine and tires are has a lot to do with how much/little gas you use.

Here's a good site to check out your vehicle.

88. Eh, no it wasn't
Not exactly anyway. In a nutshell: Ferdidnand Porsche had started working on a design for a low cost car for common people all the way back into the 1920's, and came up with the design of the Beetle. He marketed his car design (that's how it worked back then) to Mercedes, KDF, and a number of other manufacturers, but nobody was really interested in what they saw as a low-margin car. A couple of companies build successful prototypes, but it never advanced much past there.

When Hitler announced that he wanted to create a car for the masses, Mercedes and other manufacturers all applied for manufacturing rights after submitting horrendously cheap designs that resembled Model T's and were horribly oudated for that time. Porsche stepped into this and offered his Beetle design. The government accepted his design, teamed him up with another (now defunct) car manufacturer to build some updated prototypes, and got the stamps built. Then the whole project was scrapped for WWII.

After the war ended, the stamps were pulled from the rubble of the bombed out factory and, after some political maneuvering, the factory was opened for the production of VW Beetles for the first time.

So no, it wasn't Hitlers creation. Was he involved in one step of the process? Of course, but the design predated him, and the company itself wasn't created until after he was dead and the Nazi's had been crushed. The Hitlers Creation thing was a smear created by the U.S. auto industry back in the 1960's to try and discredit them as they showed up in the U.S. market en masse.

cars are purpose built. After crashing many I choose them on safety ratings and for fun.

Generally drive company cars which are diesel suburbans or excursions.

71. Heh heeeeh... naw I'm good lol
I actually tried a little bit of that, got a gain of 1mpg, but I'd rather just drive normally, and have my go fast moments once in a while.

I just recently took the clutch fan off of my truck, no problems what so ever yet, feel a small increase in power in the low rpm's, engine is much quieter. hasent even come close to over heating. I'll have to wait and burn through a full tank of gas to see what improvements their are in fuel milage. It varies around 16 to 17mpg, so who knows...

63. 1989 Ford Taurus SHO
with 177k, Dem and progressive stickers all over the back, helps hide the rusty zones,
some from the 2004 election, a era that "will live in infamy." 2008 better be waaay different.

Not because it's perceived as a "liberal" car, but because I get kick ass miles per gallon.

American made by union workers.
45 mpg city / 60 mpg highway.
Uses less metal and resources to manufacture than a car.

Not sure if they just hate my little red PT cruiser w/shiny phat rims or the Obama sticker drives 'em mad.

p.s. there's also a taped "Fascism, the Elephant In The Room" behind the glass but my tint makes it hard to see.

68. I have a 1999 Taurus, which MrSG usually drives, and a
2001 Mercury Grand Marquis, which used to be my mom's car. My siblings decided I should have it after our mom passed away in February. I'm not working right now, so don't drive much. Even when I was working, I didn't drive much, because I worked from home.

Oh, and the Marquis has an Obama bumper sticker in the back window.

I don't know what our choice of rides reflects politically, if anything. We have a well worn 1995 Lincoln Mark VIII I picked up second hand about 5 years ago, my wife drives that most of the time. A 2003 Dodge 1500 short bed pickup truck, plain standard cab with a V-6 and a 5 speed. We stopped the bumper stickers after the rightards here keyed the car.

But my "main squeeze" is my 1999 Harley Davidson Sportster.

91. Bottom-of-the-line Honda Civic, and am trying to replace it with
a motorized tadpole for long trips (my two pushbikes suit for around town). The problem (ideas welcome) is anti-theft storage: I live in a 3rd fl. apt and couldn't possibly get any such thing up the stairs. But if I parked it anywhere outside, it'd be stripped to nothing - or stolen outright - the first night.

with a rainbow sticker that says, "Unity in Diversity" (code for "I'm gay!").

I think the faact that I clearly drive an old and extremely well-used car at least says something. Cars ought to last longer and not be replaced every couple of years. A semi-green viewpoint. I'd love to have a Prius, though, having been in one recently.
