In the quest to appear perfect, a lot of people are being brushed aside -- the Beijing residents who were forced to move to make way for new Olympic development, the impoverished communities in rural areas who could have used all the money being poured into the Games, etc.

My guess is that a lot of people around the world feel sorry for Yang Peiyi (I wonder if she was told that they didn't think she was pretty enough?) -- and Lin Miaoke too, who was unwittingly used.
