2. Modern art?

At a guess I'd say it is a juxtaposition of an iconic symbol of beauty with death. Raising questions of what is real beneath the affections of society. After all, beauty is only skin deep. We all die and decay. Is it a denial of ourselves to reject that part of life/death? Questions like that. I'm no artist though. That's just my interpretation of the symbolism. :shrug:
