When - EXACTLY - are the "Opening Ceremonies"?
Edited on Fri Aug-08-08 06:50 AM by annabanana
Are they going to be held in the Morning of 8/9 to accommodate US Viewing time? Have they already been held? Beijing is 12 hours away.

42. 8 is a good luck number in Chinese
August 8th is one of the most popular wedding days of the year in China. The word for 8 sounds an awful lot like the word for luck. It's a cultural thing.

7. it's a way for hitler's image to be beamed to aliens, so
we can have haliburton and a japanese consortium build this weird device that really doesn't do everything, but allows special effects companies make an actress think she's tripping on acid.

Except in this case, the signal we are sending is that smog breathing creatures are most welcome in China.

20. I'm Still Trying To Figure Out Which Channels Will Have What...
Of course there's NBC and their "billion dollar" coverage...but the games are all over the cables...on MSNBC, CNBC, Bravo, Universal HD, USA and Oxygen.

Here's a list of channels and events:

http://www.nbcolympics.com/tv_and_online_listings/index.html

Looks like opening game coverage will be at 7:30pm ET...but, if you hablando Espanol, Telemundo appears to be carrying coverage at 8am...more like real time coverage.

My son-in-law...who always reminds me it's "the real football" was up at 4am watching. You may be right...I didn't look closely to see what was listed for them. I figure for the money they are throwing around, the main NBC network wants the exclusive. Looks like after that, there's coverage all over the dial. Now to find women's beach volleyball!!!

Cheers...

I'm curious...the national network or are you getting a feed from the CBC or BBC? I remember in '04 people living near the Canadian border were watching the CBC coverage and thought it was far superior to the over-done NBC coverage.

38. I Like Bob Costas
That's about all that's worth watching. Seems like most people I talk to don't have much interest in watching...and I don't blame them. The over-the-top jingoistic mixed with corporate shilling has all but ruined the "Olympic" spirit. Once they let the professional in, the games lost a lot of its special character.

I'd block their mailboxes, but they never read 'em anyway.

...airing a program showing a dark sky when it is light outside.

Americans will get frightened and run to their windows to find out which monster took the sun.

37. I would like the numbers on commercial time vs actual coverage of an event.
Not background on the athelete that endured brutal Orange County traffic and family problems like arguing over cleaning the pool and other heart rending backstories while knitting an American flag, but actual coverage of the event. You know, runners running, swimmers swimming, that sort of stuff. That total compared to all the shit.

I will not watch any of the coverage NBC airs during primetime. Screw'em, I will follow it live (like the rest of the world) via the internet and the other channels that will carry live coverage of events. NBC can take their corperation-americainized-fake olympic coverage and shove it up their arse!

I was looking for a live feed on TV to tape to watch tonight, but no dice, and i didn't know how long BBC America would stay with it.

But the official site is apparently streaming. Could someone verify. I'm at work and we're not supposed to do multimedia stuff that's not company related.
