Gingrich admits to affair during Clinton probe--feels he shouldn't be seen as a hyprocrite--bwaaaaaa
Gingrich had affair during Clinton probe
By BEN EVANS, Associated Press Writer 4 minutes ago
Former House Speaker Newt Gingrich acknowledged he was having an extramarital affair even as he led the charge against President Clinton over the Monica Lewinsky affair, he acknowledged in an interview with a conservative Christian group.

"The honest answer is yes," Gingrich, a potential 2008 Republican presidential candidate, said in an interview with Focus on the Family founder James Dobson to be aired Friday, according to a transcript provided to The Associated Press. "There are times that I have fallen short of my own standards. There's certainly times when I've fallen short of God's standards."

Gingrich argued in the interview, however, that he should not be viewed as a hypocrite for pursuing Clinton's infidelity. Oh ok then

"The president of the United States got in trouble for committing a felony in front of a sitting federal judge," the former Georgia congressman said of Clinton's 1998 House impeachment on perjury and obstruction of justice charges. "I drew a line in my mind that said, 'Even though I run the risk of being deeply embarrassed, and even though at a purely personal level I am not rendering judgment on another human being, as a leader of the government trying to uphold the rule of law, I have no choice except to move forward and say that you cannot accept ... perjury in your highest officials."

"His first marriage, to his former high school geometry teacher, Jackie Battley, ended in divorce in 1981." :wtf:

10. Is she the one that Newt said wasn't pretty enough to be First Lady?
Or was that his second wife? I don't think it was his third wife.

2. well then...
I fully expect Mr. Ging-grinch (i.e.- the Grinch who stole the last 3 years of Clinton's presidency) to lead the campaign against a pardon for Scooty-poot Libbby. It's only natural, since he's so concerned about perjury and all...

7. Exactly! If his defense is you can't accept perjury in your highest officials
...then he'd damn well better speak out against pardoning Libby. But Newt's just another GOP hypocrite, they're a dime a dozen.

A belated welcome to DU, app_farmer_rb!

3. Yes he did and he also asked his wife for a divorce while she was in the hospital .
Newt doesn't have a chance in hell of being president. The pure RW wackos won't have him...unless he's been 'born again' I suppose.:eyes:

5. um hello? He says he doesn't remember that conversation so since he says that
it obviously didn't happen.:sarcasm:

His first marriage, to his former high school geometry teacher, Jackie Battley, ended in divorce in 1981. Although Gingrich has said he doesn't remember it, Battley has said Gingrich discussed divorce terms with her while she was recuperating in the hospital from cancer surgery.

6. NONE of those people know what the truth is anymore.
They lie about everything! He doesn't remember a conversation about his divorce...while his wife was in the hospital? Riiiiight. He didn't deny it when it first came out in the news....YEARS AGO. Their modus operandi...deny, deny, deny, ignore, ignore, ignore, deny, deny, lie, lie, lie, lie, lie, lie. They're all so pathetic.

9. the new Republican disorder -- Memory Lapses During Horrendous Acts
or MLDHA.

Seems to be a problem Scooter Libby had too. :sarcasm:

Let's have a fundraiser! We can use them as guinea pigs for Big Pharma to test toxic drugs. I'm SURE Newt and the rest of them will volunteer.

Right?

12. Well, at the very least this is providing TONS of entertainment
value over in Freeperville. They are spinning enough to power a medium-sized city.

"Hey, Newtie....what goes around, comes around. Karma, and all that, you know."
